The Red Square to Westlake group was a mini-CM in and of itself. You guys were taking over Fairview as I was heading up Eastlake. It was quite a sight, as usual.

Critical Mass was great!

While I was in the simulator on Friday morning, I got a rad back spasm and got to go to the doc who gave me some more little friends. They're a horsepill sized muscle relaxant or something. And they knocked me out solid from 4 in the afternoon until like three the next morning.

I had some really messed up dreams about you guys and onion-flavoured fruit and wee bree.

Oh, was there a bicycle ride too?

Good times at, and great weather, too, for my first Critical Mass!!! I think I was grinning almost the entire time. What a fuckin' incredible experience, biking with like 200+ people or whatever it was. Wow.

Yeah this weekend had several “firsts” for me including, among other things.... first ever CM on Friday; first ever show at Studio Seven on Saturday; and today was my first times for both Todai Sushi and the SAM sculpture park! Ahh, fun stuff.... hope you alls had killer weekends too.

Hey Oldbiker82, I thought you were gonna ski Mt St Helens yesterday; maybe road conditions postponed it or something..?

I tried to remain a crotchety old hater when the mass decided to go over the Aurora bridge, but dammit, it really was a thing to be seen.

Met up with the Red Square contingent for the first time, too. Good stuff; a miniature CM on it's own.

Also, first group ride on a fixie.
My knees hurt.

Did that fucking bike hobo take CM on Aurora? Was it him?

Someone please put a stick in his wheel.

I had a pretty good time at mass. Some dude got his wheel taco'd by an angry motorist, but honestly it looked like the dude got what was coming to him.

Lesson: Do not cork the middle of the road. Cork intersections. Cars expect to be allowed to move forward in the middle of the block. Plus, the bulk of the group was already blocks ahead at the time and there was no reason to cork the car anyway. The dude stopped in front of the car, and the car moved forward to nudge him out of the way. Wheel got taco'd. Dude should have just let it go. Pick your battles.

Other than that, the ride was fun. Great weather, big turnout. We rode south to Safeco where the thongs of M's fan looked at us like we we're aliens, then up to the ghetto velo and on to the Aurora bridge.

mass was awesome. It was huge, and tons of people wound up drinkin' on gasworks. Matt let me borrow his Pugsley for an epic ride down the hill. I need one of those bikes.

Matt, sorry & thanks.

You mean that old hippie who kept saying patronizing things like, "Now remember guys, if you go too fast then it's not fun for the slow people, and if it's not fun for everyone then it's not fun at all, etc etc..."? That guy?

Don't think so. But that dude sucked. Seriously.

Seriously, if CM is going to go on Aurora, the way we did it this month is the way to go. We took Mercer to Dexter, then Dexter to QA Ave (?) and then got on Aurora at the last entrance before the bridge, then promptly exited at the bottom of the bridge. Best way to do it.

Also, i don't care if he was an old hippie, or if he was annoying, he has a point. CM needs to be a *mass*, not a snake, as has happened a ton of times in the recent past.

Agreed, but the guy still had this totally condescending way of saying it. Like he was coaching soccer practice or something.

The Aurora jaunt did go about as smoothly as it could... At least it wasn't over the viaduct again.

Yeah, I hate that. It's easy for the guy blocking the car to end up being as big an ass as the driver. It's a tough situation though; an agressive car trying to force its way through the mass is bad news.

The bike hobo I'm thinking of is more interested in creating chaos/a riot rather than achieve what CM is supposed too.

personally, i like going on aurora more than anything else critical mass does. the feeling of taking a space that i cant normally ride on and having it open, quiet, and safe is great to me. but not for everyone i guess

my biggest pet peeve is when people start blocking oncoming lanes. i told a couple cap-fixsters to get the fuck out of the street and stop being dickfaces last CM i was on. no reason to block cars that are coming AT us.

I agree about riding on the Aurora bridge, but the potential for danger and douche-baggery is quite high up there. I remember a CM that took the bridge where a kid (early-20-something-ish) ALMOST got creamed by swerving out into an oncoming lane while he was whooping it up with his friends. A truck nearly hit him and he was roundly yelled at.

I also saw a lot of unnecessary corking going on. In fact, one bunch of corkers let a guy roll through 'cos he was already in the intersection and as he was trying to clear it a bunch of other riders tried to cork him and keep him from leaving the intersection. Erm, what? People just get so caught up in the idea that they can cork traffic that they don't consider when it's appropriate to do so.

All that said, it was a good CM and I'm happy that I went.

I dunno man. Taco my wheel with an intentional and aggravated "nudge" from your car and my U-lock goes through your windshield when I "nudge" back. Wheels are damn 'spensive.

We're not allowed to damage cars. Cars shouldn't be allowed to damage us. Cars don't nudge other cars without insurance companies and cops getting involved.

Maybe he got what was coming to him, maybe he didn't. Wasn't there. Just sayin.

i can say it: he didn't get what was coming to him. if you're sitting in a car (or carrying a gun or u-lock) and somebody annoys you, you still don't get the right to mete out your own fucking justice. this isn't the wild west, and people who do that kind of shit aren't cool or heroes, they're just antisocial rejects. call the cops on your cellphone.

the fact that you think that he got what was coming to him speaks volumes about your level of socialization.

Henry,

Lee says you aren't cool or a hero. So please stop using your U-lock to mete out your own brand of wild-west justice.
