So I want to go out for Critical Mass this month, and the greenlake race.

How long is it? (Critica mass) Time wise... and does the route change? If so, or not, what is the route?

It doesnt really matter how long or where it goes. Im just curious

(curious = bored at work).

Critical Mass doesn't have a route. It goes where ever the loudest idiot king in front directs it.

You could say it does a loop or two through downtown and from there who knows.

You forgot the part about no one wanting to lead the group, but everyone in back bitching about the route.

till it's done. it depends how you define it... it gets smaller and smaller until you're just riding with a few other folks.

The only useful piece of information that I can add is that most people stop pedalling long before the midnight race begins. Make/find some plans for spending the time in between. There are usually many good bars between the end of the CM and the start of the race.

That's only partially true. Most of the people I've heard kvetching were on about people at the front going to quickly. I've heard people moan about hill-climbs, but they've usually been the predictable ones (weekend riders and people obviously not accustomed to riding off the Burke). Mostly I hear people complaining about angry drivers honking or shouting at the cyclists.

I've never actually heard anyone say that they didn't want to lead CM, but I don't doubt that it happens. I found myself in the lead position of CM once and I just took the ride on the broadest, safest route I could think of until somebody else jumped ahead of me. No big deal.

The part about "ride until the group is only a handful" is pretty accurate. Lately, we've started around 6:30, and whittled down to "only a handful" by 7:30. Of course, as the weather gets nicer, this seems to be later and later.

Yes, the person leading is the loudest fucker in front.

It usually lasts near an hour and contrary to what these kids said there's usually an point where it pretty officially ends and beers are pulled out and names and personalities exchanged.

*did you see that asshole in the SUV trying to nudge in on first?* *I hate it when those hipster fucks take it up Capitol Hill!* *Damn it was a good turn out this month* Or *fuck I hate CM in January*

It's a blast every time. It's fit for most if not all cyclists. It gives you a great sense of solidarity and there's often a dude bumpin music! See you on the 30th!
