Any novice or inexperienced snow-sport people going on this? I am interested in putzing & learning and have no expectation of someone teaching/hand-holding, but it would be fun to have another n00b to hang with.
My flight to the midwest got canceled so I expect I will be here. Count me in.

Boo for cancelled flights (you and Bryan), but YEAH for rolling down the bunny hill. Sweet.
Ok I got a flight. But if you guys go Saturday or Sunday count me in. I get back to seattle friday at noon.
I vote sat or sunday!

I'm a n00b as well, only a half dozen trips in the last three years. Count me in for bunnyslope action
now the important details: who has the best ride to get us up there? We need zanimal and his landcruiser!

IN!!
I have an extra board - 158 or 162, extra gloves, extra goggles prolly, maybe an extra turtle fur and hat, but not much in the way of serviceable extra pants/jackets.
If anybody wants my extra board you'd need boots - I know REI rents em but I'd check availability. But both my boards are very nice, so I'd highly suggest either and I'd make do with my other.
I don't have a car anymore, so I'll offer gas/roadhead to compense.
Also, I'm good at teachin noobs, I often pack a flask or wine and a camelback and heartily believe in sharing fancy lunch stuff.
I'd vote for any local ski hill that isn't snoqualmie

well shit, if everyone else is boarding, I guess i'll board too.
i've got a late 80's acura integra, so you know it's ready to go to the mountains!
which is to say, i have chains and i can drive, but i can only fit 2 others and gear.

I think Christine and I are likely up for this.
Two questions: when and where?
We have a Forester and live near 65th and I5 and could provide rides for 2 others. The car easily holds 4 people and equipment.
I'm mostly on the bunny slopes too (snowboarding and crashing a lot).

I'm in!
I have an extra board and boots, with clip-in bindings.
(Sized for a 6' person - I'll check the sizes when I get a chance)
I also have a Mazda hatchback with a roof rack that fits four people comfortably, but I'd prefer not to be the one driving it. Sounds like there are plenty of cars though.
Saturday or Sunday both work for me, but I vote for Sunday.
For kids on the North End, does the Ravenna Park and Ride on 65th St make a good meeting place?

I support meeting at the P&R. This is assuming i can get the Prius out of WSEA by then.
Keylime, I'd like to borrow whichever board you're not using, and will rent my own boots.

I just took my board out and down some of the closed-off streets in capitol hill/CD. Shit that was fun, but the snow was softer on Saturday night.
ow.

snowboarding at a mountain resort, and snowboarding down capitol hill are two completely different things. no comparison in any way.

Just stopping by to re-iterate my hope that you all suffer horrible injuries.
I can recommend a (couple of) great orthopedic surgeon(s)!

i'm probably down for this. putting in a vote for crystal. I think I can fit three with gear in my car, assuming the ice releases it by the weekend, but only if need be.

I seem to remember this being called a "Park & Pool" for reasons unknown, which is infinitely funnier sounding.

I can bring the Urban Assault Vehicle. Belts for nine, sits six without anyone having to touch each other.
There's a 2% chance I have to go to the east coast to remind my father that the correct solution for drinking too much, falling, and cutting yourself on your whiskey glass is not watching TV. But, that should be fine.
Depending on when this adventure happens and when other weekend plans happen, I could be up for some skiing. I haven't been in awhile, but could use some time on the skis. I tried boarding once and it was awful. I will stick to skiing. I would love a ride as well - as my rear wheel drive jeep is lame as in the snow.

Scratch that. I may be in Bellingham next weekend, helping fix my sister's frozen plumbing. We'll see how that develops.

Everybody's first day boarding is one of the worst days of your life. No, I mean the day after your first day boarding is one of the worst days of your life. I dislocated my pelvis my first time out...
[Is that even possible? Yes it is]

I started out skiing when I was a little kid, and was doing black diamond runs and jumping down cliffs when I was 10. Then I switched to snowboarding in high school 'cause it was "cooler". After four years of much pain and frustration, I have switched back to skiing.
Frankly, I like being able to bomb down the mountain at fast as possible without worrying that at any moment I might catch an edge and go bouncing down the hill on my head.

Wish I could go. I'll probably be getting drunk somewhere with friends and/or family from out of town. Not that I wouldn't rather be tumbling down the side of a mountain.

I started skiing when I had big enough feet to fit in the smallest boots. Fast forward through a little more than fifteen years of skiing fairly badly due to not going enough and never getting the hang of '80s skis...
I switched to snowboarding after I had a particularly bad end-of-season that resulted in the destruction of most of my skiing equipment in 1998 or 1999 or so. My brother's learning snowboard and boots fit me and I was better on the board than I had been on skis within about three days. A new board and boots followed pretty quickly. Did that exclusively until January or so in 2007 when I started breaking my gear from 1999 and everyone else pushed me to try skiing again before investing in a new board(s).
Shaped skis rock! I can do everything on the mountain faster and cleaner. Still... You can have my good snowboard boots when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers.
Anyway, this weekend sucks for me, but I'll totally try to come on future trips.

Do we know what day this is happening on yet? Should we do a poll or something?
PS South Dakota is boring.
