Whose running studs? I got so tired of not riding I put on the studded tires (on the BF) this am to ride to work. It's HARD. OK going on packed snow and ice, slushy intersections get off and walk. Running my BMX speedplay pedals with boots and yaktrax attached. Bring on more snow!! Running about 40lbs pressure, may lower that.

I'm running Michelin 32cm City tyres on my three speed. I rode in today with cages and boots and didn't have much of a problem. Crossing streets I had ford mounds of slush of course, and parts of Alaska were like riding in two inches of sand. It took me 45 min to get downtown, about 20 of that just to get out of WSEA and over the Spokane st Bridge

I'm riding the Panaracer Smoke/Dart combo, which is what I've been using for riding trails, at 25psi. I'm a little dude though - 150lbs, give or take. I stuck some flat pedals off a hybrid on my bike so that I could ride in my hiking boots, which are waterproof, and dab or powerslide as necessary. Today was very difficult because of the ruts and death cookies, but it'd been working very well for me. They're not the tires I'd necessarily choose for this - they're basically both all-conditions tires, although the Dart's got pretty closely-space knobs. They're also both 2.1" tires, and I think that a wider large-block all-conditions tire on the front and a mud tire on the back might be the best.

Considering lowering the pressure in my fork. I think that my compression damping leg is working a little better than it's supposed to lately.

Other than the day you saw Gregg and I (christ that was a cold riding day), I am not sure studs have been too necessary. I'm running some 26xbazillion mudders that were sitting in the garbage bin outside of Aaron's a few years back and I haven't had a problem. Gregg is having no problems riding my cross bike with 700x32 cross tires.

Don;t you have a Mntn bike Ro? If you want to borrow my Klein, I am still a little post-op to be riding a lot.

FYI, if you're running yaktrax, be careful not to run them on SPD's or pedals that have areas that they can catch on. i ruined one of mine on saturday night and fell right over as i was caught on the pedal. speedplays are probably a safer bet.

rei traded mine out for me no problem. holy fuck i love that store.

So I've been rocking (running?) the Michelin Mud 2 700x30 front/rear set on my cyclocross bike when the funniest thing happened today: I got turned away from work!

Gate Guard Marine: "sorry lieutenant, can't let you into the restricted area on that, it's unsafe."

This of course is after Saturday's incident where they let a privately owned jeep onto the base, which the driver proceeded to roll, take out two fences and a transformer complex and block traffic onto the base for six hours while they figured out how to get a tow truck through the gate's chicane...

Hey, at least I got a free day off from work!
