i've been doing this race since 2004 and lately im less than cheery about going out there. I'm grumpy, old, and crotchety. Time to pass the Greenlake Race torch to someone else who will step up and manage it for 2009.
It's pretty easy, coordinate some prizes (booze, bike parts, whatever you want to do), make a trophy for the year, then just keep track of who has won and who has the trophy. It can be a bit of a clusterfuck to wrangle with everyone drunk and surly on friday nights, but if you're loud and like herding cats, this is for you. Would love to see someone put some more after race events into it as well.
Miles expressed some interest... still want it? anyone else?
Deal with it however you want, but my time says that it's best if one person runs it for the year instead of different people every month. At the end of the year it can be a problem figuring out who has won, and all that if it's in the hands of 12 people.
Would like to see this stay on as a .83 race... just want to hand off the responsibility. I'll still be doing FHR for sure though.

Besides folks offering themselves, maybe some folks can imagine a person who they'd think would do a good job takin your place? Maybe if enough folks said they'd like to see "name" run the race then "name" would step up?
It's highly possible that this idea is completely stupid.
No I'm not cooking anything up I'm just thinking aloud, in type.

Aaron Goss is the person I would like to see run this race.

He's still into bicycle racing, right? Maybe the winner can get a Team Shane jersey as a symbol of bicycling success? Then they can ride around Seattle, kinda like having the World Champion's rainbow or National Champion's stars and stripes, it'd be just as prestigious.

The motion passes in favor of Derrick hosting the Greenlake Race by supermajority, 1-0.

all joking aside, if no one steps up to handle this race this year, there will be no race this friday.

Fine; I'll do it.
But I'm driving there until I bike again.
Yes, I do live on Greenlake, but I'm on crutches and that's a hassle.

awesome. thanks man. do whatever you want with it.
if you need a generic trophy this year, most trophy shops can turn something around in a few hours as a rush job. or make something original if you have time.

There will be a secret meeting of Recreational Racing committee later this evening. An activities subcommittee will be decided on and plans for a trophy established; there will also be pastries.

Would this race committee possibly be meeting at that "so awesome your mouth will asplode" burger joint on Phinney? Eh?
Also trophy? We can do better. Yes we can.

A race subcommittee could meet at the Red Mill if you/we can round up the troops for it. I could use another meal I don't have to laboriously cook.

It wasn't that cold nor that wet; small turn out but very colorful.
Results:
1. Felix
2. Ryan S
3. Scott R
Trackstands on geared bikes:
-Felix
I was the only lady there, but Ryan took the lady prize since he fit the heteronormative expectations of what a lady should be with his long, shiny, pretty hair; plus I didn't race.

Consider me on hiatus from club functions/the forum; I recommend someone grab this as it might be a while.
I'll recommence this stewardship at the end of my recess but I need a general break for now. I will be available for assistance or guidance, so if needed PM me.
K thanks.

with the exception of august, i'd be down to look after the race for the forseeable future in rogelio's absence, and i'm sure frd_mrshall would be too. i may not have the funds to supply as many of the fancy prizes we've seen in months past, but I am surely capable of making up for that with quantity. i think that fred and I have attended the greenlake race probably 13 out of 15 months...then again, if derrick wants it again or someone else with more years in the group, go for it!
funny thing, the above race, march 09 was my first race I believe, and I think alec was the "quiet" blonde kid...I battled him the whole way for that 2nd to DFL spot.

I would step up, but the remainder of my 2010 calendar involves some travelling, and besides I am usually quite drunk by midnight on Fridays. I can sub for you occasionally, Torrey (except for August, I will be out of town). I can also lend you a propane grill from time to time.
Anyway, I think "Torrey/Fred '10" is a fine ticket, and I second the nomination.
