This sucks
I've been riding loaded/fixed too much lately and my knee is giving me grief. I'm out. I might have to stop riding bikes for up to a month while I let this get back to normal.

It's for the best as I have a number of timely things I must tend to this weekend.

Nick, if I can transfer my ticket would you be interested?

I definitely won't ride FHR either, which means I can help with the setup/drinkup crew next weekend.

Sey hey to Margaret for me.

Since you're not riding to Bellingham, do you want to dog-sit Una on Saturday?

miss caroline is sick with plague, but valiantly hoping to carry on like a wayward son. if she is too sick to ride i may decide to stay by her deathbed with perhaps a damp rag and some weak tea, helping to comfort her passage to the next world. or i might still ride anyhow.

ginger, i'll holler you up on your cellphone if we are bailing so's as you do not need to wait for us.

Edit: turns out first ferry tomorrow isn't 0520 like usual. This makes it nearly impossible for me to make it on time. See my later post.

ha, looks like i won't even have to wait until tomorrow. i'm here with caroline and a priest giving her last rites now. funerary arrangements will probably keep me from going on the ride. on the plus side that means there is two more bike spots on the 830 train south on sunday.

my bellingham record is now 1/3, fyi. gotta get that higher sometime. ride swift! ride safe! stay warm!

This has all the makings of a disaster.

Checklist:
- iffy weather
- winter daylight hours and temps
- first time century rider
- rookie ride leader
- riders dropping out left and right
- questionable ferry schedule
- bikes just back from shop with new parts
- jetlag from 28 hours of continuous planes, trains and automobiles
- riders dying. Actually, I think caroline's fine, she's just playing along so other riders have an excuse.

I'm not sure this one is a good idea, and it's looking worse by the minute. I'll see you guys Tuesday night instead. Dad used to always say "discretion is the better part of valour."

Rookie in the sense that usually it's Bob that leads these. Not rookie in the sense of how many times you've been to Bellingham or how long you've been riding, certainly not in terms of fitness or ability.

It's just my personal experience is that whenever you switch a ride leader, no matter how many times they've rode that route, no matter how long they've been riding with the group, something quirky always happens.

Who the fuck do you think you are? I've been co-leading this ride for three years running and I didn't know your name until last week. I don't see how qualified you are to judge other people's experience hosting rides you don't show up for. What the fuck precisely are the quirks with my ride planning? That Caroline got sick? That you didn't get out of bed? I called you last night to offer you a place to stay, and I called you this morning to make sure we wouldn't leave you behind. The ride met and departed exactly as planned, and we're ahead of schedule- I'm lucky Ginger popped a flat so I have time to chew you out. Do me a favor, okay? I don't want to see you open your mouth unless you spend half moment's time thinking about what you're going to say.

Enjoy the ride, it's nice weather to spend the day on a bike.

Wow, way to take offence at a reasonable response for not going on a ride Brandon. Matthew has been riding with Point83 for about a year, so I'm sure it is only chance if you two have not met at some point.

Matthew says a shit ton of dumb things as far as I can tell, maybe he thinks they're funny, I don't know. I'm not going to fault anyone for getting pissed at one of them - there's so many chances.

and I've been drinking coffee and studying ever since
I just had a vegan double chocolate cookie with a fresh blood orange.

.....

but I'd rather have ridden to B'ham

Dumb or not, it was well qualified with the part about first time century rider, jetlag, new parts, and weather issues. Regardless, Brandon's response one which seems like he and Matthew have been going round for round for a long time, rather than what both of them imply is their first exchange. Brandon has been here longer, but it does not entitle him to being rude to someone else.

This is clearly not an issue of horsecock, but rather Brandon feeling as though he has been maligned somehow and then taking offence for what does not seem to be so big of an issue.

Maybe Matthew forgot to update the correct people in triplicate that he was not making the ride.

In Brandon's defence, I didn't realise that he's co-led this with Bob numerous times; so "rookie" might not've been the best word choice. As far as I can tell, that's what his actual point of contention was- his reply was all over the place and angry. I sent him an apology via PM, but he hasn't responded... But so long as the general public agrees with me there was no intended horsecock, I don't feel the need to continue this.

And for the record, it hasn't been a year since I started, it's been a solid 18 months!

As for your comment, Miles, I'm cut to the quick. I didn't realise you loved me so much; you've never said as much before.

I'm done here. Brandon and the rest of you can discuss this further if you want.

DEAR INTERNET:

Point is, you don't need to make excuses for why you don't want to come on a ride. But if you are going to make an excuse, don't blame someone else. And if you're going to blame someone else, blame someone you know. If you're going to skip a ride absolutely do fucking not get on the innernet and start implying someone you don't know is incapable of keeping rubberside down long enough to get to Bellingham. That's bullshit, so I called him out. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Bellingham is beautiful and the ride was flawless, by the way.

Peace and puppies, Brandon

Yeah seriously, today was a great day to ride, based on how nice it was here in Seattle. Sorry I couldn't make it. Again, I had a friend from out of country I haven't seen in three years.

There was NO WIND today. We rowed my boat out to Golden Gardens, dropped anchor, and drank whiskey in the sun. It was beautiful.

For the record, Brandon is definitely the co-leader of the Bellingham trip, knows the route just as well as me, and does a great job of getting folks riding. Lighten up people.

for the record, i didn't make it for a litany of stupid reasons, among them being because i'm a huge flake, because my new saddle isn't broken in yet and i had a bad saddle experience last year, but largely (here i am ignoring brandon's advice, partially) because i didn't want to deal with matthew's elitist attitude on the way up.

looked beautiful here the day of, and i found myself wishing i was looking at a bellingham sunset instead. sorry for flaking out, wish i had made it, sounds like it went well.

I am indeed much improved. I am so bummed not to have been able to make the ride, but I stayed home sick from work on Thursday and Friday, and late friday night was still feeling like crap and hiding under blankets.

Yesterday was indeed fantastic weather. I felt good enough for a ride around town in the sun, but it sure wasn't no awesome ride to bellingham. well, next trip perhaps then.

Seconded.
True story, years ago Chase and I were walking down the street on Waikiki beach when a couple military service members approached us from behind. One of the guys yelled out really loud "I wanna fuck HER"! at which point Chase and I turn around and the guy is pointing right at Chase. Also, how many times must this picture be posted on the forum?
