I get to take a little week and half vacation thanks to the economy, so: Is there anything interesting happening in the bicycle world after this month and before August?

You could go to NAHBS or the San Diego Custom Bicycle Show.

Actually, if you planned it right maybe you could fly to the San Diego show, then ride to Sea Otter:

http://www.seaotterclassic.com/

I've never been to either, but there's always a bunch of new/prototype stuff that shows up in manufacturer tents and on pro bikes at Sea Otter (which I then see on the web).

Oh, there's RAGBRAI, too.

I am doing STP. I am not doing it in one day. Doing it in two days scares me enough.

my fat ass did it in one day, it is possible.
you might hate bikes for an extended time afterwards, but it's a great accomplishment.

by this metric, jamming a coffee cup up your ass is also a great accomplishment.

hmmm... well July can have some nice days and long daylight hours. Seems like a good time to ride your bike somewhere and sleep under the stars.

Dorks should consider planning for ToorCamp over the 4th.

I think a more important question is how you feel about them hanging around us.

We've shown that we are not willing to change our completely irresponsible and occasionally hazardous behavior in the presence of small children. I would recommend against this, but of course it is up to you to risk your children being exposed to drink, drugs, violence, and the fuck you saw.

Ok, so I've requested July 2nd through the 11th off.

Maybe camping, maybe I'll just jump on my bike and ride south, maybe my request will get rejected: adventure.

oh it's not how we feel about it, it's how the state will feel about it when they TAKE YOUR CHILDREN AWAY FROM YOU, YOU HORRIBLE PARENT.

for the most part we'll be pretty good around kids. like miles said, id be more worried about what they are exposed to. drinking, late nights, swearing, bad behavior, etc. we'll keep an eye on them and make sure they dont get broken, bloodied, or talked up by questionable individuals... but for what they take home and learn from us, we cant be held responsible

We probably wouldn't scar them for life, they might still turn out ok. But personally I'd wait 'til they were old enough to haul their own camping gear. Otherwise, it's all on you.

I'd be up for a STP/LFR ride. Hopefully I won't be bleeding from the lungs at the start this time. Also, since it'll be about the time I'm leaving Seattle, it'd be a nice going away.

Anyways, would LFR be a race, kind of like FHR is a race in the middle of CH?

LFR might be more like what I did last year. Though making it a race (though without prizes or sponsors) would be fun. If so, i'm in.

Uh, I didn't mean for you to shoot your vacation wad on just this. Friday July 3rd, should be a paid holiday for those of us who still have jobs. We roll out on Thursday on a 5pm (or later) ferry and camp then roll all the way downhill the next morning to the return ferry. Think of it as the longest Thursday point83 ride.

Devon, I suggest you keep the point83/family guy firewall intact. Just use some fuzzy math to double a typical 7:00pm-2:00am outing to 5:00pm to 10:00am.

Oh noes, there are other things to be done this weekend involving fire.

Also: I can still change my time in the future.

Devon, a little extra point83 history on attitudes towards kids.

Bike camping: Sooner the better.

Deven - if they can haul/find firewood, they can come. I was raised around drunk belligerent dickheads and just look at me - I turned out fine.

I plan to do STP this year. I'll do it in 2 days since this is my first time. I'll get creative next time.
