I don't know if many people have seen or heard about the idea of an indoor velodrome in Seattle. But if Boulder can build one, why can't we? Let's get behind this.
Thanks for the reference. After noticing the traffic come in from point 83 I updated the website to take your input, suggestions on how to get this project moving forward.

So lemme get this straight. You ride around in circles. And that's it?
Is there a bar? Can we start a fire?

I actually think you're hitting on something there.
Beer garden = must-have in the infield, in the middle of the dirt jump track. Firepit = awesome outside, on the smoking deck.
This thing will fall flat if it tries to be an indoor version of Marymoor.

I do have to say that velodrome racing is a very spectator friendly version of bike racing: A lot of the races are over very quickly, match sprinting is a head to head duel, and even the endurance events are designed to keep the action going. It's a little different than road racing or even cross, which are pretty boring to watch on the whole.
That said, I've never been to marymoor so I don't know if it's boring. Alpenrose velodrome is pretty exciting, and about the only way it could get better is if they allowed alcohol and betting. So, I hope that the seattle indoor velodrome ends up a high banked, short track, with beer. Betting is probably a step too far, but no one said you can't make wagers with your friends...
Bottom line: While the bikes are similar, Velodrome racing is no fixed gear freestyling, and that's a good thing.

Marymoor has a permanent beer garden for all of the Friday night races. It just sucks that it's in Redmond. I'm all about a smoky indoor track on this side of the water with Chinese gambling, drugs and prostitues. Make it happen, people!

I know what I'd want for Christmas. And it wouldn't have brakes or gears.
A pony?

Is there irony bearing the name roadmaster when it's only qualified to ride on a track and not - as it's name might imply - the actual road?

Not sure you'd want betting involved with this. Betting = gaming commission. Gaming commission = state regulation, and the costs of regulation get passed onto overhead- so riding is more expensive.

I thought the figure 8 was made for a messenger world championship, last I heard it was in storage on the east coast.

we can let derrick deal with the gaming commission. he's got them all figured out now.
There's only so much oval I can take. I think Marymoor pretty much meets that RDA for me. Now, a figure 8 is intriguing. Especially if there's no fly-over in the middle!

That was a great game. Needs to happen on bikes, though.

Roller racing. Imagine the racing IN THE BEER GARDEN, not the beer garden in the infield. Beer sprints, anyone?

I'm assuming by Ryan you don't mean me, but if beer sprints are involved, I'm in. And I will crush you all.
Proposed format:
Riders each receive 1 (one) full pitcher of beer of their choice. A group of arbitrary judges/timekeepers will oversee the competition, one for each competitor. Upon the start of the sprint, riders will begin drinking said pitchers of beer (any sort of drinking aid, such as straws or beer bongs will not be allowed) while judges/timekeepers record amount of time taken to dispose of said pitchers of beer. Time penalties will be assessed for beer spilt. The winner will be decided by the lowest combined time for sprint and beer consumption, minus penalty spill points. The entire pitcher must be consumed before the 400 meter sprint is finished. If a competitor finishes the 400 meter sprint, yet still has beer in his/her pitcher the sprint clock continues to run until all beer is consumed.

I did a race that sandwiched bike sprints between chuggathons back before i knew this group. It was fun. It's hard to chug a beer when you've been sprinting balls to the wall.
