The roller races will be fairly free form. sign ups start at 6:30, with grudge matches between riders taking place until enough people sign up for a race bracket. Go head to head against someone, top time for the night will be announced. If you haven't raced on rollers, it's worth checking out. Here is a little edit Greg put together from my house this last weekend. 400m in 20-25 seconds on with a 72" gear. How hard could it be?

Enjoy.

Blah blah blah let the drunken hipster gerbil wheel travesty commence. Everybody come and root for me while I fall off my bike* in like 10 seconds

It's not really a bike right, so whatever the hell it is we're on. Our trainer. Maybe we can put Friends on and watch it while we spin.

Incidentally, I'm bringing The Bicycle Eater - with it's knobbies.

Don't worry. We've got training wheels, er- fork stands. You might puke though. And you think I'm kidding. I'm not. I never kid. NEVER. Loser buys a drink for the winner. See you there. XOXO

I'm always very serious and I never talk trash. Nope. Not me.

Hope your bike has a basket because mine will.

Cross post, beer sprint showdown...

Proposed format:
Riders each receive 1 (one) full pitcher of beer of their choice. A group of arbitrary judges/timekeepers will oversee the competition, one for each competitor. Upon the start of the sprint, riders will begin drinking said pitchers of beer (any sort of drinking aid, such as straws or beer bongs will not be allowed) while judges/timekeepers record amount of time taken to dispose of said pitchers of beer. Time penalties will be assessed for beer spilt. The winner will be decided by the lowest combined time for sprint and beer consumption, minus penalty spill points. The entire pitcher must be consumed before the 400 meter sprint is finished. If a competitor finishes the 400 meter sprint, yet still has beer in his/her pitcher the sprint clock continues to run until all beer is consumed.

Fuck dude I'm trying not to drink beer for two weeks and got wrangled into this.

Chug a pint, get on bike, finish ride, chug another pint, finish.

i was at ryans house the other day to drop off the FHR borrowed tent and he showed me the rig set up. it's pretty neat. the bikes are hooked onto the rollers via the front fork and back wheel. you dont need to balance. all hooked into a computerized system measuring distance. only looked like it took a short sprint to get to 400 meters. short but furious.

You need to add Karaoke to this so someone can sing 'Eye of the Tiger" for the racers.

No

If it's in one glass (or schooner, or pitcher) it's one beer, no matter the size. I'm trying to give us fat dudes a chance at winning something for once.

6 Coors Lights in one huge pitcher downed in 12.5 seconds. I can prove this statement, seeing as how there were multiple witnesses. Come on people, you know you want to do this.

I thought I was AndrewW.

Which reminds me... I have a race on Sunday and the best way to follow a race is with another race but I only have geared bikes. Can I bring one of those? Alternatively, can I bring my fancypants road pedals?

Dear twowheelwiz,

If you guys are providing bikes and they are already set up what if we cant really reach the pedals? Silly but kinda serious question.

kthx

I believe policy is to cut Langstons legs off and glue them to yours so you can reach the pedals.

Or yano - they'll lower the seat.

Since I apparently made it home before the wiz tonight, figured I could field a few of these.

Monie wrote:

We've been using two bikes in the mid-50's w/ extra long seat posts to allow as much adjustment as possible. My own bike is a 50, but although I'd like to blame my slow ass on the bikes, I still had several inches of adjustment. We also had people with a foot of seat post exposed that were bringing in top times.

Pedals are platforms w/ cages and straps.

Monie wrote:

400m. 20-24 seconds so far. I believe I turned in a stunning 27 before choosing to drink heavily instead.

derrickito wrote:

After the Race of Shame it took me over an hour to ride home. To Eastlake. At one point I lay on the cobblestones in Pike Place with one shoe still attached to my bike drinking beer out of my bag. I'm pretty sure this is the most direct route.

langston wrote:

He also took off his pants and made the place smell funny. Unrelated, I'm pretty sure.

Thanks GregHxC for the help in fielding so many questions.
As for beer sprints: Of course we can do what we want, but a good format is:
-the countdown begins with riders sitting on their bikes, on the rollers, stabilized in fork stands. It's a cold start (legs not moving) as opposed to a rolling (flying)start.
-Countdown: 4,3,2,1,GO.
-Riders drink one glass of beer prior to pedaling.
-After beer is finished, riders begin sprint of 400meters, taking, as GregHxC said, 20-30 seconds.

Puking disqualifies.

Fun for all.

Dude there are lots and lots of bikes in this world that even if the seat is lowered all the way I cant reach the downstroke of the pedals while seated.

Monie. I'm sure we can make something work for you. The bikes have a sloping top tube, and fit smaller than they sound. As a last resort we can put a different bike up there.
Everything will be just fine.
