Is anyone going to this? It's 5 - 7 p.m. SPU's Demaray Hall, located at 509 W. Bertona St. on campus.

According to cascade:

"car-centric, transportation groups will be out in droves to prevent better bike/pedestrian additions to the road."

I thought this had something to do with some art thing at The Nickerson, but alas, it is about community responsibility.

Not even that, it is about SDOT's rediculous decision to remove all crosswalks on 4 lane roads.

Nickerson gets a fair amount of pedestrian crossing traffic and with the speeds and blind corner, there have been injuries.

The road diet will let SDOT stay within their rules and still put the crosswalks back, though this time the crosswalks will include center lane pedestrian refuge islands. The side benefit is that we get a bike lane and sharrows (in theory on the downhill slope).

I expect to be there from 5:00-5:15 before I head off to the SBAB meeting.
PM me before 5:45 if you have something specific you'd like me to look for or mention. I'll try to get pics.

I was there. There was a good turnout of bike folks. I asked an SDOT rep if she's gotten push-back from the four-wheeled crowd. She pointed to a single woman in the back of the room and said, "Yeah, from her."

The plan seems to be uphill bike lanes and downhill sharrows on Nickerson. Michael's right, this "rechannelization" (I guess "road diet" is 2007 lingo) is really geared toward peds, and the bike striping is a happy side-effect.

Other concerns like connecting Nickerson to the Ballard Bridge and that railroad yard trail were not addressed by this plan, though those seem to be pending.

I asked two separate SDOT reps if the Mayor is going to back out of this plan like he did Stone Way, thereby forcing a couple hundred cyclists to terrorize the neighborhood. They both thought that this plan would forge ahead, but could promise nothing. Stay tuned...

There were no refreshments.
