not sure on the details, just passed the accident scene on my way into work. motorcycle officer blocking latona and 56th confirmed that it was bike vs. car. i skirted around the next block - the whole intersection was cordoned off with multiple police units interviewing folks and taking pictures. i did not see an ambulance.

there was a blue stepthrough (possibly a huffy or other lower-end marque) leaning up against the south curb of the roundabout, pointed east. possibly somebody t-boned or clipped from behind while going through the intersection? there were some boxes and bags nearby as well, it's possible that it was a non-elite hobo.

Bicyclist struck by vehicle in Wallingford neighborhood

Posted by Nick Provenza

A cyclist suffered serious head injuries after she was struck by a vehicle just before 10:30 a.m. in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood.

Police and medics are at the scene, near First Avenue Northeast and North 56th Street.

The cyclist, a woman in her 40s, suffered life-threatening injuries and is being transported to Harborview Medical Center, said Dana Vander Houwen of the Seattle Fire Department.

More to come.

I have some paint, chain, and padlocks that I can donate to the cause.

The telephone poles near there don't seem to have much to easily hang on so I'll bring those lag bolts and a socket wrench too.

I can do midweek.

Who has a ladder?

fuck. stop getting killed!
thanks everyone for being so fast on the ghost bikes. i know of several people who have seen them with their children around seattle and the bikes have stimulated good conversations with kids (and with adults) about the problems cyclists and cars face and the dangers... it does help and they make people think.

let's call it Wednesday night? ladder, anyone?

Bryan, where do you work? E~ works in Belltown and could probly grab it from you. otherwise i can grab it from your shack, being just up the hill and all.

thank you, all of you. it is no secret how much i love the bike community here--but just in case you didn't know, i love y'all.

4th and Union in the Puget Sound Plaza.

Will you be home tomorrow morning? If so PM me your address and I'll drop it off on my commute. I'm usually on the road between 9am->11am, depending when I wake.

If we miss, I'll have it with me at work and can take it anywhere.

It sounds like the ghost bike is taken care of, but if need be there are two more junkers sitting in my garage. I'd need someone with a car to drive them unless the accident is in Ballard again, but they're there. Mr. Black's ghost bike claimed my only extra U-lock.

I'll be there when this goes down. Do we need paint?

We have:
paint (Michael)
bike (Devin)
house (paint/staging space - Travis)
chain (Michael, E~)
locks (Michael, Bryan)
sign (Nova)
photos (Nova will bring camera)

We still need:
ladder
to have a year with no cycling or other vehicle-related deaths in Seattle.

I have a six foot fiberglass ladder in the garage in Georgetown you're welcome to use if you can transport it, but I'll be out of town Wednesday night.

Sounds like we need one of those junkers after all. If you PM me with a phone # or address, I'll come pick it up tonight / tomorrow, paint it, and handle the transportation.

Is bike picked up? What time do we want to convene on Travis' place with whiskey, sorrow, and ghostbike? I can do just about any time after 4pm, but slightly later (~6ish) is easier.

I haven't heard anything from vaticdart yet.

If I can get a bike tonight, I can have it pre-painted, transported, and ready to install at 6ish.

Would 6:30 give everyone who wants to be involved enough time to get to 1st and 56th?

I have my hands on a bike that has been sitting outside and rusting for years...the chain is rusted into a single solid piece. I can have it pre-painted and ready to go for tonight if we want to use it instead. Just let me know.

E~, Ryan H., and I are meeting at 3rd & Blanchard at 6pm to ride up.
I've got sign + rope (for hanging sign) + sticky U-lock, Eric's got chain, Ryan's probably got beer.
