I never knew how many products i had to buy to save the earth.
Exactly!! Last year they had a HUGE area for the main stage for the
keynote speakers, with big screens for people in the back...but I guess they
didn't make enough money from that so they rented the space out to more
venders and stuck Amy Goodman in one of the conference rooms which
filled up and then they barred the doors. Come off it. The only reason I
went in the first place was to see Amy. Then it was shoulder to shoulder with
all the yuppies in Seattle who drove down so they could buy products
that had been green washed. That way they could make ZERO changes
in their lifestyles, buy the same junk only remarketed as "green" and
spare their guilty consciences.
Last year Bike Works, which is a great charity operation, did the bike parking.
You could donate $5 to Bike Works and then get $5 off registration. This
year they had some other outfit doing the bike valet...and there were
hardly any bikes there.

see, that's funny. The only reason I went was to check out new product lines. I met a guy who makes diabetes friendly goo shots, picked up some plush resuable diapers for my niece and grazed my way through a bunch of tasty vendors.
I find nothing to be a bigger waste of my time than listening to some trustafarian tell me how they dug latrines, spread "the good word" and otherwised engaged in 21st century evangelicanism in some god awful third world hole where the last thing Earth needs is for it to be easier for more people to live.
then again, I'm of the mindset that we don't have an environmental problem, we have a people problem... too many people on too small of a rock.

Park the bike in the basement and buy a Humvee...if you don't already have one.

heh. noob.
Hopefully we'll meet and make a better acquaintance. I'm one of those angry environmentalists and I'll take my carbon footprint up against anyone. I have a grown up job (ha) and don't live in a shtetl to do it, to boot.
If I wanted to go hear speakers tell me how fucked everything is and how little effect we can have on it as a society, I'd go and listen to the roaring freeway. Trade shows are about consumerism, silly hippy.

West Seattle condo, thanks. It's warm, bright and part of a diverse and interesting community.

Ooooooh snap! You got served son!
But seriously; I drove my lezburu a half mile to PCC because I was tired. Does that cancel out my carbon foot print? What if I told you I used my reusable grocery bag?

Sometimes, when I get bored, I like to go to grocery stores and collect plastic bags. When I accumulate several hundred I go to Alki and start a huge plastic bag bonfire with a few gallons of gas. Also, tires, and hairspray cans are very fun to burn.

You say that like it's a bad thing.
I'm sure you are actively campaigning to bring in more poor people into your ghetto.

I'm just pointing out that "High Point" means something VERY different than "West Seattle". Also, for all that gentrification homogenizes neighborhoods, it's sure nice when you don't see people selling crack on the street corner. So, fuck those poor ghetto people, we'd like some nice foreigners who don't think that shooting each other is the way to resolve disputes.
