Should you care about cheap camping equipment and other sporting goods, Joe's (formerly GI Joe's) has gone bankrupt and their liquidation sale starts today.
I'm heading up to Northgate now.
Hmm. If I put a URL tag in the message, the text disappears. JFGI.

ive gone to a few of these, and the deals aren't usually very good at all. i remember waiting in line at future shop for what i thought were amazing going out of business deals and everything was only 5 to 10 percent off. as the weeks wear on, they start increasing the discounts as stock wears thin.
greg, report back? curious if it's the same thing.

Sale was definitely on. Stock wasn't depleted yet, but I was there pretty early, and there certainly seemed like there were a lot of people heading for the Northgate GI Joe's/Target/Best Buy complex. It was min 10% off (if you ignore guns and ammo, which were 0% off); some stuff more off (like 30% - 50% for clothes, I think; I only saw the breakdown on one lonely flier and certainly didn't memorize it).
Base prices looked like normal GI Joe's, except the staff was very confused about sales prices --- is it 10% off the sales price, or 10% off the non-sales price? I certainly don't think they jacked up any prices; the whole staff acted like they just learned about the liquidation a few hours ago and were pretty disorganized. If you go, I'd ask about the sales price vs. discount, or just ignore the sales items, since you can probably get a better deal somewhere else if they're just taking X% off the regular price.
I'm sure as the days go on the prices go up, the stock gets more depleted, and the store becomes more of a mess.
Oh, yeah, and if you have a gift card, you should definitely go soon; bankruptcy means you don't have to honor your debts, and a gift card is a debt.
So, in summary, somewhat like Derrick's Future Shop experience, but not nearly as bad. If you want the super bargains, you'll have to wait it out a bit.

I'll probably run up there to get camping fuel. They sold MSR/SnowPeak/JetBoil/Primus compatible cansiter fuel (in 200g sizes) $2 cheaper than anyone else already...10% off is just a bonus.
