I know, this is the same weekend as the PDX bike/film festival. But for everyone else, come down to Codiga Park with me to spend the day pulling out blackberries and restoring salmon habitat.
Quote:
10am - 2pm, with a festival party afterwords.
Want to do something fun and rewarding for Earth Day? Join Duwamish Alive! as a thousand volunteers roll up their sleeves to work on twelve habitat restoration projects along the Duwamish River. People For Puget Sound volunteers will be working at Codiga Park in Tukwila. This former dairy farm is now a wetland providing shelter and food for wildlife like ospreys, bald eagles and juvenile salmon. We’ll be working together to remove pesky invasive weeds like blackberry and tansy that threaten to overtake native plants, and we’ll be spreading mulch to keep them at bay. Put on your (work) gloves and join the fight!
RSVP to da@pugetsound.org
This event will take place rain or shine, so don’t forget to dress for the weather. Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. Oh! and don’t sweat—we’ll have tools and work gloves to spare if you don’t have any of your own. We'll also provide snacks and refreshments. Please pack a lunch.

Everyone can help! No experience necessary. Children 10 and under must have one-to-one adult supervision.

Duwamish Alive! is a chance for people to reclaim the river by weeding invasive plants, planting native species, mulching the planting areas, and picking up debris and trash from the riverfront sites.

By default, this seems to be turning into a point83 bike event, since about 6 of us are planning to ride there from Beacon Hill. Let me know if you want to come!

I've had a hard time resisting having a bonfire here.

We could do it (at some point). Last time I volunteered down there I made a point to ask the P4PS Ecologist what she thought about the environmental impact of campfires. Burnt wood's not really a problem. Plus there a nice sandy beach down there.

I don't know if it's actually legal though...

Hey this was a lot of fun. I got cut up, dirty, and a little sunburnt. It felt like digging for treasure, never knowing how deep you had to dig to unearth some unholy long taproot on a blackberry bramble. I broke two shovels and I worked well past my arms cramping from such hard digging. Napped for three hours later that afternoon.

The patio at Smartypants in Georgetown is not to be missed, and we found out they don't freak out when you bring in the most amazing tamales from the taco truck out front so long as somebody buys food. Pointy3 should return.

Wasn't it Smartypants that had beef with the kickass falafel truck that hung out down there and sadly left us for Portland?

The falafel truck is not a crime.

If I had a bar that served food and some dickwad parked his fallafel truck out front of my establishment and started competing with me, yeah I dunno. Whether or not it's illegal, it's a dick move.

I think newspapers feel the same way about craigslist, but in this case the fallafel truck is giving away free gyros.

First, until recently 9lb didn't serve food (and it only kind of does now), so having a falafel truck is an awesome idea. Especially for later at night when other bars along the strip stop serving food.

Second, there's some awesome rumors that make the story better and paint the dude at Smarty Pants to be a shithead. A man in a donkey suit on the street corner told me all of this and promised he was legit.

The story goes that the 9lb owner and Smarty Pants owner were friends, and the latter was all, "I'm going to open a sandwich shop!" and the 9lb owner was all "that's great, you can use me for advice". Obviously Smarty Pants is a bar now. Who is the dickhead for opening a bar right next to another bar?

Regardless, your competition comment is bullshit. You don't get to be a piece of shit because customers go somewhere else nearby, regardless if it's on wheels or in a building. It's not a dick move, it's business. And I don't mean that in the "Business is a rough and tumble game, pull up your pants!" way. You simply don't get to be a douche about competition. Free market propaganda inserted here.

If he is being an asshole about the Falafel truck, then he's just a fucking dickwad, period.

I will refrain from rumor milling on the intertubes and get back to posting links of videos for now.

I still think everyone's being a douche. I'll say it on the internet.

Why are we talking about a Falafel Truck?
Apparently it's no longer a problem. Now there is a taco truck.
Taco no equals Falafel.
