Here's the history of the greenlake race, as told by Jake:

Jake wrote:
A long time ago in January when we first made
the tophy (the handywork of Matt and I) it was decided
that in everyone who won the trophy throughout the
year would be entered into a race in November to keep
the trophy for good. Then someone would have to make
a new trophy to start off the next year at January's
race. December was left off limits as there's another
guy who hosts a race around greenlake. So we decided
to skip that month out of respect for him, and those
people racing. It was his race, however, that gave
leslie, Joe, and I the idea to have the monthly
greenlake race to begin with. So there you go. The
history of the Greenlake race in a nutshell.

So, this Friday 10/28 is your last chance to make it into the November race, to take the trophy home for good.

Somebody other than me is gonna win this time. It could be you!

I'm thinking about trophy ideas for 2006...

it would be rad if we could get david out to the race, he's the guy that won the very first race, and then broke his leg in the second one.

his emails keep bouncing back to me

Derik and I were talking about making the next one (months and months ago..) but Denny, you have a fucking mill at your disposal.
Can we help with the design at least? Eh? Eh?

I had even started collecting parts for the next trophey.. but with the powers invested in Denny, we could have one sweet ass trophey!

Heck Yes!

I was thinking of incorporating:

A racecourse layout (start/finish, map of the lake path)
    Point83 Logo
Spots on the base for the monthly winners to sign
    What else?

But of course we should collaborate, because what's more fun than design by committee?

Originally it was like a few would take on the task, to keep things from getting out of hand.. Jake and Matt did the first one cos they were the sculpture kids and pretty much called it. Derrik and I were talking about it one night after the race and Jake said we should do the next one or something, and we said ok.. this was so long ago, Derrik should chime in and help me out here.

that sounds pretty awesome.

my only input is 1. make it solid enough that it wont get ruined being packed along in bike bags all year .. and 2. sized that it can fit in bike bags back and forth pretty easy all year.

tuff! besides that, come up with something cool and ready for last month in january :)

Design sounds fun.... I'm in if it's not too many people.

Bummed that I will be East in the Pulman area friday but I'll be seeing my kids so I'm not as bummed as last time when I was sick....

Fuck that! I want a fucking giant, some piece of shit that is so big it needs its own carry strap built onto it and soo irrationally large that I'd need to rent a larger apartment to host it.

And horrendously gold. and maybe marble.

Think 80's Miami coke mansion gaudy.

Actually, carry strap isn't bad though...

ha, forget that nonsense denny, it should just be a stem. two stems actually, set up so it can be used as a 1" threaded or 1.125" threadless with a crazy handlebar clamp and ridiculous shit welded and milled all over it. and the winner has to ride with this monstrosity on the front of their bike for a whole month.

Maybe I'll take a What Now wheel, spraypaint it gold, and the winner has to be Little Wheel for a month. Including the following race!

.83 trophy showdown? If there are no moral objections, I'll put up a liquid prize for the most blinged out example of of greenlake championship.

At the REload race, they put a real working spinning freewheel on the top of the first and second place trophies...
I bet it could be worked in without stealing their idea completley...

it would be cool if the trophy could double as a drinking vessel.

The trophy should be easily transportable and feature a pair of training wheels and a bottle opener, among other things.

On a completely unrelated note, someone posted a bitchin GT rat ride on my site...
