Aye. My GF is going to drive up as well and either walk or ride from the closest place to park. The rest of us will be riding from the parking lot near the grocery store.

Despite falling this morning, I totally intend to do this trip sans-cast this time.

Pretty short if they drive up as far as they can. I want to say 7-9 miles?

assuming this winter has been relatively kind to it, it's 8 miles from the main road closure washout to the area we camped last year. the road is closed at mp 12.6, we camped just past the bridge washout at mp 20.8.

This winter was not kind to many places in the cascades ... has anyone scouted this? Looked for TRs on other sites?

8 miles of dirt road, some small area of switch backs as well. Nothing that cant be navigated on foot w/a bike, i.e. not steep inclines. A bridge with a ladder (see scott's blog posting).

I guess you could consider this the scout run if you wanted.

I might be able to scrounge up some time an evening this week to drive up there.

s'my pleasure

It's unlikely that i'll actually go to this thing as we've got plans to go coastward and chicks love beaches. But if the weather ends up looking seriously nice i might push hard for it. If we were to do it we'd probably stay two nights.

I think you guys should stay two nights. Then if bike sabbath decides to go camping we can meet up with you.

just an idea

if that were a serious possibility, frankly the only difference to me is whether I bring food packs for one night or two. And I'll make you stop by my house and open a second can of cat food for my cat.

I couldn't go Saturday night, but might be able to convince Christine on Sunday. So I like the idea of extending it too.

Edit -- I'm out. I need an "at home" weekend after not being home on a weekend since March.

I missed this trip last year and really want to spend some time up there. I might try and get a few folks interested in heading up in June.

Just keep in mind it is Memorial Day Weekend. I can and will stay if there is a second party that wants to come up, but I don't know how busy it'll be up there and can't hold onto empty camp sites for long. Thats my only real concern. So if this is going to happen, someone needs to step up as ride leader and coordinate the second party.

eh - for the sake of simplicity, we're going up Saturday and coming back Sunday. End of story. If you'd like to come with, it's very pretty and we'd like the company. If you can't make it this time there are going to be other bike camping trips this summer, don't worry.

Hey guys,

The campground you are planning to go it is off Forest Road # 26, right?

If so, it says it is closed due to flood damage on the NPS web site.

Here

That road is - Forest Road. The bridge is washed out - but the route we're taking on NF-26, a smidgen north of that, off the Sauk Valley Road isn't.

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=s1tsgj4w80tp&style=b&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=19249952&encType=1

Thats where it's washed out.

There are a couple pieces of the route that look like this for a brief second

Which make it unpassable for cars but just fine for bikes. I'd be inclined to take a drive up after work if someone wanted to come with.

can't go this weekend but ... just a reminder that there was an awesome campground about 1.5 mile (?) past the one we camped at, which just a few of us rode to... Lee, myself, PJD and Jessica, maybe a couple others. anyway it was sooper cool, IMHO ... better river access, nice big trees, lotsa ferns, moss, etc. checkit.

If I recall, the main reason we backtracked to the other one was for that shelter for putting the tarps on cuz of rain.

Yeah, a couple friends and I are going to see how deep into Montana the Suburban and we will run on Whiskey. If I'm not back next weekend, we've forsaken society and started a farm.

Next time!
