Edit: planning overnight camping trip to Manchester State Park. Meet at Voulas for food at 11 and to recover from West Side Invite. Show up by 12:30 if you don't want food.

or you could curb your hippie wilderness inclinations and race the West Side Invite.

langston can we borrow your truck to go camping if you are gonna be in town this weekend?
Why is that in wrenches and gears? I looked over the forum before I posted the Bike Sabbath to make sure I wasn't encrouching on anyone else's camping plans.

I won't be getting it until ~June 8th. A friend from Sounder Band is going to sell me his truck, as soon as his daughter gets out of highschool and can give it up (heh heh... the truck, I swear)
and Ben, goddamit, you can have the $60 anytime you want it.

I would like to make it known that I will be in town this weekend and expect there to be a Sunday ride, Slow, Smashed-Up or Sabbathy, that will involve bicycles, beer, and outdoor hooliganism.
I don't think that I'll be able to do an overnight trip unless someone is willing to help me haul stuff, as I am going to be riding the Fast Bike, not the Hauling Shit Bike.
Just putting that out there.

[edit: cut me provoking scott to assholery, call the waambulance, etc.]
if time permits and car space is available, i may be persuaded. somewhere closer that did not require a car step would be more attractive though... something to think about.
proceed planning...

I doubt we would ride all the way. We would probably do car then bike like last year.
But nothing has been decided and right now this is just me yammering ideas out. I just remembered that monday was a holiday then brought up the idea of bike sabbath being an overnighter. Then scott pointed out the camping trip already planned then I thought hey we can just meet up.
Sorry to cause any confusion or stir anything up.

We drive into Darrington, or in some cases the trailhead, and then bike into the campsite.

dude, look, just because someone does not want to go bike camping does not mean that they are lame: Maybe they don't enjoy bike camping, just like you don't enjoy alleycats and footdown because you suck at it.
P.S. Ben, I'm not coming either. I'm going to be in portland, getting a new goddamn couch.

I bought both my couches in Portland. It's the sofa capital of the PNW.

Okay well for simplicities sake, we're going up Sat and coming down Sunday. If you want to come with, please do. If you want to org a Sun/Mon camping trip yourself, go for it I say. But I think it's obvious from even the brief conversation we've had here that the two schedules, while close, are not going to in fact line up.
ok so they are heading out sunday so if we camp we can go anywhere we want. I vote we leave at noon like usual to have some time to recover from West Side Invite Party where also Larry will be playing the role of a rockstar.

Easy 30ish mile ride from Seattle. Still has campsites available, beach, woods, trails, critters etc. Not as hardcore as riding around on washed out roads and destroyed bridges, but totally do-able with a late start time, a gut full of Veula's, and a wretched hangover.
I would be up for that. It says under the "Other Activities" they have "Interpretive Activities". I always like some interpretive dance with my camping. oh wait maybe that's not what they meant.
The idea that we wouldn't have to scrounge up cars that can take bikes is a good one.

Other options to bike to from downtown would be Green Mountain via the Bremerton Ferry or Manchester State Park via the Faultleroy/Southworth ferry or Fay Bainbridge via the Bainbridge ferry.
I'd be surprised if there was much room at state parks on the holiday weekend though but it says you can reserve a spot still....
Also they often make room for bikers if you make it sound like you biked from far away so look sweaty and desperate. Manchester has these awesome beachfront spots for kyaykers that you should sneak down and camp at, the biker/hiker sites there suck.

Spontaneous modern dance is when I reach for my revolver.
Long Haul Sunday went to Manchester park once, it's pretty awesome, has military ruins, and it also has some sites available.
Which Green Mountain did you mean Joeball? The only one I could find is by where Scott and crue are going.

I definitely plan on going to joeball (green mtn) on the 2nd. Since we have the chance to do that later I think we should go to either Dash Point or Manchester State Park.
Military Ruins at Manchester sound neat to me. Larry and Beau would that be boring for you guys since you have already been there? How long does it take to get there? Is that enough miles on bike?

It's about the same distance as Manchester State Park.

Curiously, I will be there this weekend, at the group site. Granted, it will be with a bunch of kindergarten families, and I'm approaching from Gig Harbor, but tell me what you want to know and I'll take notes.

We only explored a small part of the park then kept riding when LHS visited, so it totally would not be boring for me. And as Lantius indicated, we can add miles in to make it worthwhile.
Sooo...Manchester State Park it is. We should take a head count to see if there are enough people interested to make it a go. Beau told me he has people visiting in town so he can't come. This should significantly improve attendance.
So who is in?

You will be at Scenic beach?
Pictures of the group site will help a lot, specific questions would be:
Fire ring
Fire wood provided
Size of group shelter
Number of Picnic tables
Size of grill
Water on site
Sink on site

And distance from the group site to other sites (ie, can we be loud and not disturb the neighbors?)

Yes, Andre, Scenic Beach.
I will observe and report.
Edit: Also, I'll have the whole family's bikes with me, so I'll probably take some time Sunday to explore the various routes there from Bremerton.

Just to make this clusterfuck of a thread a little less confusing....
Bike Sabbath is going on a short, hungover campin' trip to Manchester State Park, coming back Monday.
Also if anyone one needs equipment like tents or sleeping bag I have an extra of about any camping equipment. Just done have pee, or throw up in anything of mine.
