Until I lived in Vancouver, I never realised what kind of racket you can do with stolen meat. At some of the shadier bars I used to frequent, it was not uncommon to be approached by someone trying to sell you a steak. I'm not talking about a waitress trying to sell you a cooked steak, I'm talking about a seriously down-and-out dude trying to sell you a raw steak, still in its styrofoam and plastic wrap. I've never actually bought a steak like this in a bar, but I've seen some people do it. Most of these were stolen from an awesome place called "Save On Meats" that looks like this:

Lots of other people will try to sell you whole salmon that they seriously fished out of the Fraser that day. I have actually purchased salmon like that in a bar because it looked seriously awesome and it was! I felt ok about buying it from the dude, it was like getting rad salmon for cheap and taking a stand for Native fishing rights at the same time and excluding the official market economy blah blah blah.

One lady in a bar tried to sell my brother 5 guitar pedals, she couldn't explain what they were. Lots of stolen goods being sold in bars up there. Are there any bars like that down here in Seattle?

i dont notice it too much in bars (or ever)

i have been approached on the Ave quite a bit over the years. mainly drugs, but other times skateboards, books full of cds (obviously recently nabbed), xboxs, etc.

i bought the skateboard :)
meat is a new one to me though.

edit.. the only thing people regularly sell in bars that ive seen are flowers, roses, etc. i see that all the time

Some guy tried to sell me a bag full of unopened AA batts once.. like the entire bag for $10. THere had to be well over 200 batts in there.. I so should have done it. :\

Up at minnie's on broadway, when it was still there, this kid dripping with sweat comes running into the joint with an armload of "Hollywood Video" video games, still in the H.V. boxes. He comes up to our table, and asks "Does anyone want to buy Playstation games, $5 bucks!" I ask him what he has, and he freaks out. Then the minnie's people ask him to leave. Then we saw the cops roll down Broadway.

Normally, people, especially in the U-D, try to sell drugs, or just outright ask for money. One time, down by the Irish Emigrant (next to my house) this guy was pushing a huge home 8-track system in a shopping cart. He wanted $40 for it. I declined.

Peace.

I had the stereotypical black guy with an arm full of watches try to sell me both ways to and from a movie downtown.

So I have to ask, wtf is the lead picture on this tread?

People always come up & try to sell me batteries or shaving razors. I use rechargables & have a beard. So piss off!

Most Common Shoplifted Items

From some blog:
My experience doesn't track with the list here. The most common type of shoplifting I see in court is theft of meat, clothes, and electronics. Of course, I only see the things that stores care to protect.
