First let me say:
I do know that this is during STP.
There is this horrible problem of too many bicycle events going on during the summer.
If you go ride the STP, good for you.
If you ride the Tour de Watertower and afterwards come to the bbq and afterparty to watch a mountain stage of the Tour de France at the Summit, good for you.
If you decide to go on a bike ride someplace else, good for you.
But... if you decide to play Rockband all weekend- bad for you.
It's only important that you ride, and have a good time.
That being said:
-This will be an individual time trial.
-It will be about 34 miles long
-It will be hilly
-The checkpoints will be posted 6/12 at www.gomeansgo.org
-it's $5 to enter, and with it you will get bbq and beer
-the afterparty is 21+
-we start on time. First racer leaves at 3pm.
P.S.-can I get a sticky on this?

I'm pretty excited about it, but I don't really count since I'm not racing... I rode up to Queen Anne and Magnolia to find the water towers. It's when I found out- Magnolia has two hills.
Riding up from say... Dravus= bad idea.
I think that this one is going to scare some people off, but that's ok. I'll see you there. There's going to be a bbq at Summit afterwards.

A couple of people have said something of the "Polka Dot Rocker" which apparently happened before I moved here, but THAT sounded brutal.

Yup, the Polka Dot Rocker was great. Take your course, add 2-3 times as many check points, all at the top of steep climbs, and then makes it points based. There was a 4 or 5 hour time limit, and ranking was based on how many checkpoints you could hit before time ran out. It kicked everybody's ass.
If I'm around that weekend, I'll try to make it out for this. I love me some hills.

I'm sure some will. Believe it or not, some people don't own bikes with freewheels. It can be done no problem, but I can't imagine that first place will be riding fixed. As I'm sure you know, the difficulty (not really difficult, just slower) is not the climb, but the descent. There may be a prize, at the very least an acknowledgment for first fixed.
At least there will be beer and bbq at the end.
If it wasn't said before, the afterparty is 21+. The race is all ages, the younger folks will be able to claim prizes.

word. i rode four of the hills the other day--> am now considering throwing on a rear break, if i decide to do it. i don't even think i have one of those. Queen Anne and Magnolia were just brutal on my shoulders. my roommate, Dung, who is likely racing, thought it was hilarious.

I don't own a bike with a cassette, and therefore deny how superior they are to 5 speed freewheels, Campagnolo Record or not.

I'm so excited, I rode this today. Took me around 3:50, with the mandatory stop for lunch. I recommend Cafe Bonjour on Queen Anne; they'll sell you a crepe with a scoop of gelato and a glass of wine, and you can pretend you're one of those old-style Tour de France guys.

Yeah, that's about right. My bike computer says around 37, but I think it exaggerates. Plus I did a bit of dicking around comparing one steep block to another.

The ride down from the West Seattle (not High Point) water tower (Manning -> 35th -> Spokane -> etc.) is seriously fun, like some crazy slalom course done on a bike. I've got to take you guys down it some day.
Not up, because that has to be the stupidest route up West Seattle ever.
I got 6th or 7th place, which netted me a loud horn, two jerseys, and a lost pair of glasses. I still contend that going over the Ballard Locks during a race is dumb, and I hate the fact that everyone who beat me did it.

That race felt very similar to San Francisco's Mountain Lion. I'm glad I didn't have any close calls with cars or take the bus or freeway. It was fun to see so many point83 faces racing.
Robert K, the guy who rides the bus and organized the westside has an alley cat coming up.
