I am taking my bike to Portland via train this Wed and coming back late Thursday.

I need a Portland bike map. I can't print one.
I also would like to party with the locals or anyone that might still be there from STP when I get there.

Any suggestions on where to go and what to do?
Anyone gonna be there mid week?

It's gonna be 100 degrees........ouch.

Go to Voodoo Doughnuts and eat a bacon maple bar.

Go to Powell's used book store and try and get out for less than $100. Also, the technical book store (down the street) is good if there are any textbooks/monographs you're looking for (if you're a nerd of some flavor).

You can get the PDX bike map at the Alliance by Yesler and sumthin...3rdish, free, but truly unnessesary since that town is too perfect.

I've got some bike friends down there I can connect you with. Bike maps are not needed. The city is all great biking and has some excellent signage. Powell's and Voodoo are both good as mentioned. I'm a big fan of ChaChaCha which is a perfect stop on the way to the train (at 1208 NW Glisan St). The Screen Door is good for breakfast; although it is popular enough I tend to skip that in favor of the Flavor Spot (http://www.flavourspot.com/) waffle sandwich cart.

Shift may have some bike stuff going on (http://www.shift2bikes.org/cal/view3week.php).

There is plenty of other great stuff, just depends on how you want to spend your day.

Connect me.

I leave here at 11:20 and get there around 3 or so. I want to ride around as soon as we get registered at the hotel and the only thing I have planned is a motorcycle ride on Thursday. We get back on the train around 5pm Thurs.

Advice about the Jupiter, its a really cool place, but bring ear plugs. The walls are really thin and people party in the main court yard that all the rooms surround till the weeee hours in the night.

Apparently I am old.

Mary's Club (for authentic tattooed skinny broads).

Union Jack's (same, plus the occasional brown sugar and chocolate flavored honeys).

Acropolis (best $5 steak in town)

Casa Diablo (VEGAN Strip Joint, yes Vegan).

Union Jack's is great. For post or pre-stripper drinking (and late night food) in the hood hit up the Doug Fir (aka the Jetson's ski lodge). If you hit Mary's you should go there after visiting the Mexican restaurant around the corner. You have to go through Mary's to use the bathroom, which is strangely entertaining. But for all time quality Portland stripping I'm a fan of Magic Garden. During the handmade bikes show we spent the day there chatting with the strippers; discussing which songs kill moods (oddly they were pro Mario theme) and various people's drug habits. A fun time was had by all. It's also right by Powell's Technical!

That reminds me; another place to stop while you are there is Ground Control if you dig the drinking while playing videogames and/or pinball. It's in China Town near Magic Garden and whatnot. I like the cofee shop around the corner from there as well, can't remember the name though.

Also the Roxy is a good place to grab diner food if you find yourself wandering town drunk and hungry at 2 AM.

Does Chase know any strippers in Portland? Seems like he knows 'em all here in Seattle? What is it with that guy?

Ground Kontrol is indeed a good time to go.

I like Magic Gardens for my strip club. It's small. It's dirty. It's low key. They pour good drinks. They play punk rock and a bare minimum of douchey music. There's one stage. There's a pool table. It's in China Town. It's fucking great.

My facebook pics of my ride are here for anyone interested. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2028538&id=1426065038&l=415cc26775

This was a fun bike trip and anyone can do it! I wish I was more of a blogger but hey if you want to know the whole story just ask.

Highlights:
1. Zoo Bombing
2. Powell's Book Store
3. Chalk Board Doors are rad!
4. Random carnie/fair on the side of our amazing bike trail ride
5. Pin ball
6. Midnight motorcycle ride
7. Hipster spotting
8. And the realization that Voodoo donuts go quite well with white russians.

Lowlights:
1. It's freakin hot there and I got a little sun sick at the end.
2. I didn't eat enough amazing food there. I think I only ate once each day.
3. I didn't DRINK enough!
4. No Strip club stops.
5. No Brewery Stops.
6. I didn't take enough pictures.
7. 2 days is not enough time.

What I learned:
Getting off the train from Portland back to Seattle and immediately jumping on the Thursday night .83 ride of debauchery is both really stupid and freakin awesome all at the same time.

I am up to do this again and as soon as possible. Thanks to all the friends on .83 for their amazing suggestions and connections. These are just some digital shots but once I get my film developed I will post some of my pics on facebook.
