So it seems I've been hearing some talk about a Monte Cristo and/or Mtn Loop Hwy bike camp trip. Let's make it happen, people!!! I drove the entire loop once, a long time ago, for some hikes and stuff. Awesome terrain. Wanna go back now with bikes!
Last night, was talking with Andrew C about making it happen this coming weekend. Anyone else?!
Could do just an out and back to Monte Cristo, or.... maybe even do the full loop? Only 93 miles ... not too too rough, over two days.

Or basically, I wanna do at least one more bike camp trip, besides Suiattle, before the summer's over. And I could do it this weekend, or else Aug. 22, or else Sept. 12.
Anyway: info to come on potential camping locales along the MLH, mileage, etc etc. ... need to do some Googlings, but not now. later today or tomorrow. cuz I been staring at this damn computer too long today.
(Note: Monte Cristo bike camp veterans, feel free to chime in and save me the trouble of consulting teh Googles...)

The full loop is pretty good. SR530 between Darrington and Arlington isn't that exciting, but it's not bad riding either. The dirt section between Monte Cristo and Darrington is really nice. There is a lot of road-side camping along that section, or you can camp up at Monte Cristo. The climb from Granite Falls up to Monte Cristo is really nice and mellow.
I can't make your proposed dates, but it sounds like a good ride. I haven't done this ride in 6 or 7 years and really should do it again soon.

I'm in for doing the whole loop, several people have told me that it's a great ride.
I'm not sure what weekend though, I guess either this or next would work for me. Sometime in Sept would also be fine.

I'm not sure i'd call the dirt in to monte cristo 'really nice'.
It would be really nice except for some nasty bypasses of washouts where you will be pushing your bike up steep inclines in mud, and then bringing it down the other side.
Also a river crossing that you will have to do on foot and carry your bike over. Probably not too bad this time of year.

to be fair, alex was referring to the road from darrington to monte cristo, not the road into the monte cristo township itself.

Right on … actually I’m starting to toy with the idea of a San Juan Islands trip for my other (non-Suiattle) trip for this summer.
Also I got to thinking it might be silly to do this when we’ll be up there again for Suiattle in a couple weeks. (you going to Suiattle, Andrew?? … if you could take that Monday off, we could add on some type of Monte Cristo trip, like just as an out and back from Darrington or something.)
