Hey, did y'all know I was turning 30 on Friday? Which means this Thursday is my very last day in my twenties. Think we can rally and throw down extra special? I was informed by a man that goes by the name of Sketchy that dancing would go over "like a turd in a punch bowl."

Is that really so? .83 really doesn't like to go dancing? I was thinking maybe the war room at some point in the evening but I'm open to ideas.

Dag. Where does one dance for free?

I just saw on facebook that Jeff is playing "ridiculous booty bass" at the funhouse. It's 8 dollars, but perhaps it's s a win, win - celebrate a birthday AND support jeff in his artistic pursuits. Hmmm.

Thursdays at the War Room are Wicked and Wild Dancehall ... I've never been but have been meaning to. I used to be reeeaaally into dancehall reggae .... still am, kind of, but not like I used to be.

if you haven't heard of the "dancehall" genre.. it's basically Jamaican/Caribbean hip-hop.

you like dancehall, C-line? Is that why you suggested this, or did you not know what Thursdays are at the War Room? :)

cover is $5 ... which practically means no cover.

a few classic dancehall songs:

in all the years we've been doing this I can only think of ferry fares and last week's Joby-sponsored skating adventure when we've done something that required a cover, and had a majority of people participate.

Put on your thinking caps folks. The lady wants a dance party.

People+Music are the key ingredients. The better the music and the better the people the better it gets. A couple drinks and a cigar helps too.

Doesn't sound like location or music type are critical so long as it a bad ass dance party. Just keep your knees intact people.

I have a plane to catch and will miss the ride but that's ok because Ben should be gone on his honeymoon.

Also last years Dead Baby Movie.

Sounds like all we need is a portable music playing machine and maybe SLU park.

Or god knows Goldies ALWAYS turns into a dance party.

80's Jeff just did it for us.

Tomorrow night our own .83 DJ claims he's spinning "ridiculous booty bass" at the Funhouse.

So all we have to do is find a couple bars and a couple hills to climb to get nice and warmed up and then bomb it down to the Funhouse. Whats the name of that place on top of QA that was pretty rad?

EDIT: Ooops. Caroline already found it. Fuggit - let's do that.

Hey Jeff!

Just write ".83" in your one open guest spot. Then everyone can get in free.

Targies, then Hula hula (also turns into dance party), then Funhouse?

I'm pretty sure the score to my own personal hell will be reggae. I will put my idea for the war room to rest.

As for the funhouse, there are now 3 people on here that think that's a good idea. I'm just sayin'.

Scott is already sending me text messages about his foreskin. I'm not looking forward to tonight in an awesome way.

I wish I were joking about the text. It's like 10:30 in the morning.

Just to clarify: I am not DJing tonight so if you show up expecting to hear "Living on a Prayer" you will be sadly disappointed.

However, should you want to hear such timeless booty-bass classics as "BOOM! (Take them Drawls Off!)," "Cougars and Pumas," "Street Sweep" and the smash hit "Chunky Babies" then by all means you will be rewarded handsomely.

Definitely been hearing some good shit about y'all, Jeff… stoked to check it out.

Hmm ... ironically, you mighta be the most likely one in this bunch to have supported the dancehall idea ... I’m trying to remember who else, if anyone, in .83 has mentioned liking reggae.

Curious for future reference... you ever gone to WWD at the War Room, Jeff? Any good??

Anway, we ride in

I love reggae, along with pretty much all "world" music. Tuesday night and Saturday morning are my favorite programs on KEXP. Except Celtic, those inbred fucks can go drown in dicks.

Prefunc at the funhouse, then?

I fucking hate reggae, but I love me some dancehall, bluebeat, rocksteady and ska. I've got the bad tattoos to prove it. I really wish there were a good ska dance night in this town.

you know, like this shit - it's like reggae, but better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzMWe6XyVdc

or, god, so good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18EAqHx2lMk

I could go on!

Laadla bar is a great pre-funk spot. They have CHEAP DRINKS: $2.50 and a happy hour menu that goes from 5 p.m.-midnight.

Last time I was there the bartender was spinning early Rocksteady and the place was empty.

Ample booth space for cuddling.

what? ... I think most people would consider both of those reggae. or at least the latter.

At any rate ... I think a lot of times when you hear people say they “hate” reggae... what they really hate is smelly, white suburban trustafarian kids sportin’ dreadlocks ... and I couldn’t agree more on that count.

Nah, there's way too much horn use, not enough bass use, and the whole production is bright and poppy. Plus, it's desmond dekker! not reggae. rocksteady. But totally a pointless debate!
