So, I was informed by Trevor that tonight is 90's night at Lofi. I personally always have a fun time there because they play really good music. I think everyone should go and dance it up with us in the attempt to dress 90's as well!
There may be a cover... $5..maybe...
come!

That place reminds me of the milk bar from A Clockwork Orange.
I have to grade finals tonight, and leave town at 6am tomorrow, but I may possibly show up.

the 90's were a speed bump decade with nothing worth saving. the only thing i could use see to make someone dress "90's" would be 20 eye doc martens and a flannel, and no one wants that again.

We had a hard enough time getting ben to drop that look for his wedding.

it starts at 9pm. I will probably bus it with Liz since she's broken so we'll probably be there at like 9:30-10.
Also, I work at 8:30am tomorrow with 20 kids so no excuses!!!

Lol wut? That's a bold claim, sir. Flannel and Docs deserve exile, but musically... the 90's were as good as any other decade (my favorite is '71 - '81, but that's a story for another day). To give a brief refutation, I direct your attention to exhibits A - F:
Solid holdovers from previous decades
Tom Waits, Bone Machine; 1992
Sonic Youth, Goo; 1990
Pixies, Bossanova; 1990
Remember hip-hop before Soulja Boy?
Dr. Dre. The Chronic; 1992
A Tribe Called Quest, Midnight Marauders; 1993
Dr. Octagon, Octagonecologyst; 1996
Trip-hop (was fun for a little while, at least)
Tricky, Maxinquaye; 1995
Portishead, Dummy; 1994
Electronic music got intelligent
Aphex Twin, The Richard D. James Album; 1996
Boards of Canada, Music Has the Right to Children; 1998
Squarepusher, Music Is Rotted One Note; 1999
Mouse on Mars, Iaora Tahiti; 1995
DJ Shadow, ...Endtroducing; 1996
Rock (to use the term loosely) was still pretty fucking awesome
Radiohead, The Bends; 1995
Radiohead, OK Computer; 1997
Neutral Milk Hotel, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea; 1998
Pavement, Slanted & Enchanted; 1992
Godspeed You Black Emperor!, F# A# Infinity; 1998
Tortoise, TNT; 1998
And even though we're sick to death of these albums, they are actually good (it's just that no one needs to hear them anymore):

Derrick's status as an authority on all things music can be confirmed by simply checking the dial on his car radio.

And I'm with Justin on this one. Let me throw out some other bands of note.
At The Drive In
The Shipping News
June of 44
Rage Against The Machine
The majority of Fugazi's albums
Faraquet and Don Cabalero
Modest Mouse
Sunny Day Real Estates album Diary
Guns and Roses
Tool
Nice pull on the GYBE! Justin. Happy Stick, for a man with lyrics from that very album in your sig...

Forget grunge, in Nebraska it hit a little too close to "poor farm boy" to be a style of choice.
I'm going with the classic Iowa State college kid look: Khaki cargo pants, Mossimo shirt, and a sweet hemp macrame necklace. It's too short notice to get my white-boy dreads back, but I might still be able to find some leather doc-marten type sandals.

i didn't get turned on to godspeed until like 2003 (nor did anybody outside of toronto). not saying that everything from the 90's was bad but a 90's theme night, come on! the kids that grew up in the 90's aren't even legal to drink yet.

whatevs, that's the music of my adolescence so it all has nostalgic appeal if nothing else - though i do agree with schkott & justin that a lot of quality sounds and styles appeared in that decade.
HOWEVER. not inspiring enough to tempt me out dancing tonight. sorry googly julia.
