As Scott so helpfully reminded me, it's time for another farm party. Here's the word:
Clair and I are having a party and campout down at her place in Olympia. We'll have a cider press, a bonfire in the pasture, friendly animals (goats, chickens, turkeys and ducklings), and a bunch of people having a good time.
You're on your own for food and booze on Saturday. We'll have a BBQ going and there are stores nearby (2-4mi) to stock up once you get here. We will make breakfast for all the campers with farm fresh cheese and eggs.
It's a good 60 mile ride from Bremerton down to the farm. Plenty of route discussion on last party's thread. Lots of places to set up camp, or just bring a sleeping bag and crash on the floor.
For car drivers and riders, there's a rideshare board going at http://termi.nl/.
Hope to see you all come on down.
Where: 5330 Kinney Rd SW, Olympia
When: October 3-4

SWEET. Anyone want to take the Sounder down and ride from Tacoma? Cuts it down to 30 miles.

the sounder is actually an option that weekend, thanks to the magic of baseball. the southbound train leaves saturday 35 minutes after the final out. my advice is to start drinking in the id sometime around the 8th inning. the northbound train leaves tacoma on sunday at 11am. i'm not sure what the best route from tacoma to olympia is though.
another option is getting a ticket on the amtrak cascades. it's $19-$22 including a bike ticket direct to olympia (or back). but you'd have to make that plan in advance.
anyhow, the point is, don't let the distance keep you from ridin'.
i'm pondering how to make this happen for me - i was also interested in checking out the opening event (technical trials!) at the oregon manifest. maybe i'll head to portland on friday and hop off the train in olympia on saturday...

As awesome as it would be to ride bieks less, I was really going for less riding bikes.

I really don't see how this ride can be that bad, either side of the Sound, but there are also two express intercity busses. downtown Oly-Tacoma, Tacoma-Sea, like $5 total, I think it took like 3 hours long but I didn't care at the time so who knows.

took them from oly to sea last time for $3, and it only took an hour and half.
but there is only 2 bike spots.

I am really going to try and take the family unit to the farm this year. We will be driving, so I imagine I can bring 2 bikes back for folks that ride the bus.
(all people seats are full with children and all that implies.)
Closer to October I will know if we will be able to make it.

I rode from Oly to Bremerton on the 2nd day of STP weekend and it was with a driving rain in my face the whole time.
But truth is, I loved every second of it. So you're both wrong and right.
There are a few sections of shoulderless hwy (w/ barriers) along the route, if anybody was likely to get sketched by that sorta thing. For the most part it was broad-shoulders on freeway.

i've done the ride from oly to bremerton and it's good
i will do it in the bremerton to oly direction, and then back again with you and anybody else that wants to for this trip
it's nice, especially if you don't mind some freeway for a stretch
yay goats!

YES.
I biked down through Bremerton with the last Farm Party crew. It's a lovely bike ride. And you really can do it. I'm definitely planning to bike down for this one. Maybe bus or train back home.
Also, if anyone is driving, and willing to bring bikes back for people, I have a pretty nice bike rack that can fit 3+ bikes (fits on the back of any trunk/hatchback) that I can lend to you for the weekend.

Laurel and I looked at the ferry schedule to Bremerton, 8:45 looks to be the best option. That should put us in Oly at around 3:00. We could all meet at Uwajimaya at 8:00 for food and misc. stuff. Zeitgeist is just down the street for all coffee needs. That is if the plan is to all roll together.
Luarel showed me how to spellcheck!!!!!!!!!

I would love to do this if the weather doesn't make me wuss out. If it's clean out I'm down, and will even make Friday an early night to assure being downtown by 8am.

I put this pretty new duvet set on my bed? It's really warm. I'd invite you to come check it out sometime, but you've got a prescription to never sleep. No homo.
Edit: I should actually add something useful; that my front can't fit fenders, and I'm still trolling CL for a new ride. When that happens...

awesome! not sure about making it to a meetup beforehand, although sugary rice-based snacks from Uwajimaya sounds tempting... either way, i'll see you fools on deck.
