I was skeptical about the Uwajimaya thing but I am reminded that Oct 3 is Mid Autumn festival, which means moon cakes.

If there is still a spot available, I'll be a second maybe. I'd ride down if I knew it would be nice and sunny... or maybe I just need to get me some fenders and a box tampons.
I'm in to ride bikes from Bremerton. Is anyone interested in possibly riding down on Friday and camping somewhere in the vicinity?
If not, Uwajimya it shall be!

We have room coming back, or going down if you want to ride from Shelton to Olympia. We're bringing kayaks and going for a paddle in the morning.
Our chances of going are about 80%. We both are planning on it, unless Christine's sniffles last night turn into a full blown cold.
Car (Impreza) will be kind of a tight fit between our kayak stuff and our camping stuff, so pack light if you want a ride.

To help figure out rides, my friend Mitchell put together a rideshare board for the party. If you've got open seats still, you can make a new ride and it'll help you find people to fill it up.
Also for drivers, we're going to have you park down the road and walk the last bit. You can drop off your shit first, then we'll give you directions to the grange about a mile down the road.
See you assholes Saturday.

I'm in for riding bikes from Bremerton. I'll meet up either at Uwajimaya or on the 8:45am ferry. Hope there's room for me to crash on the floor as I am not planning to bring a tent.
Anyone else taking Amtrak back Sunday afternoon? Just got my ticket for the 2:03 from Olympia.

Due to much cajoling I may ditch out other plans, fix up the xtracycle, and bike down to this. If I do, I'm definitely biking back, which will likely be up to Tacoma and across Vashon like in the spring.

S and I could be interested in going back the Tacoma/Vashon way...

I've decided to ride it and wont be falling victim to the CARS option, but thanks Derrick! G**retch and I are heading out to the Peninsula tonight and riding down to Olympia tomorrow from Lake Cushman, see you all then : )

Is this route any better than the one Ben posted earlier? I haven't done either one...

Tacoma to Olympia (or visa-versa) isn't that fun because some military thing gets in the way. I haven't found a good route that doesn't involve going on I5 for one exit (between Dupont and the next exit south).
So I prefer the Bremerton/Shelton approach.
Vashon of course is beautiful and probably makes up for the less good (but still not bad) ride from Tacoma to Olympia.

Great time all! That was a perfect sendoff for the summer. The weather, the full moon and the company were just right.

Some of the company may have been just right in the night, but seemed less right upon waking. I don't think the chicken even got cab fare.

Oy
All ya'll that decided to get somekinda ride back made the right decision. I had wind in my face for about 50 miles of that return, hard enough that when I stopped for a bite my helmet blew down the road.
Oh yeah,
And that was a terrific party. Boyoboy that Adam sure knows how to eat an ear of corn.
Peter, my god, post all of those pictures.
Thanks for the marvelous hospitality Kalen and especially Clair.
I'm gonna go cry myself to sleep now, I got whipped hard today.
Sorry I'ma hafta miss your party Beau.

The wind was nuts. We went paddling, but our planned 5-6 mile paddle turned into a ~2 mile paddle because going upwind was just too hard. I did have some fun surfing on downwind waves for short periods (but should probably take a class to learn how to do it properly).
Photos from the weekend:
Thanks again Kalen and Clair!

I only hit wind on a few long and straight stretches coming back via Tacoma like on the Dupoint-Steilacoom road along the small arms range. It wasn't bad at all. I wandered a bit from my route in the spring, finding this dirt route through the Fort Lewis golf course saved me one more exit on the interstate and provided some adventure.
that fire was amazing, especially with the full moon in the clouds overhead.
i only captured a few of the incredible jowlin'/horseface fest initiated and documented by pete jr, but here's a link to my set:

Thanks to Kalen, Clair, and the farm for providing the delectable homegrown refreshments, bonfire, and the softest, most comfortable campsite in recent memory. I slept like a rock.
Thanks also to Laurel for having a route planned, and to everyone else I rode down with for the fun trip. That was my first ride over 50 miles, and first ride with panniers. Can't wait to do it again.

jowlin!
for those not in the know, jowlin is when you shake your head back and forth really fast and someone else takes pictures. results are often frightening.
so as not to barf everything up to flickr, http://shortbus.org/x/jowl/ has all the jowlin shots, but there's also some more up in the photoset:
