After about two months of limbo, the word came down from Peace Corps headquarters that my ass is getting transferred to Jamaica.
Start planning. Point 83 island style would be fucking awesome. It has to happen. If all goes well, I will be there from sometime tomorrow afternoon through sometime in summer, 2011.

My favorite day in Jamaica was getting up into the mountains (I assume they aren't putting you into a resort). Sounds like an awesome trip.
tip: don't buy any substances until you've searched the room you are staying in to see what previous residents have left behind.

Details: I will be working and living in Port Royal, on the far end of the spit at the end of Kingston Harbor.
Working for Port Royal Marine Lab, building out their tourism and education sectors. I will get to do some SCUBA as part of my official PC duties.
It sounds unreal Razi. The aerial photos make the diving around there look potentially interesting too.

jeebus, Razi. Aside from being 200yds from the airport, this sounds like a hell of a gig. You'll be seein me in the spring.

Sweet! Who else is SCUBA certified? Oh man, I think I should be worried about trusting .83 people with my life, but I'm not!
Fun fact: during my training, they talk about being "prepared to dive" which means good night's sleep, not sick, not hungover, etc. The next day, I watched a divemaster so hungover he used the "vomit while diving" technique he'd learned in advance courses.
I EXPECT TO SEE IT AGAIN.

Christine and I are certified. Diving fail when we went to Jamaica though, Christine had a cold the whole time. I'd love to give it a try.
Lots of jellyfish around Negril, but still some good snorkeling.

This doesn't pre-empt Blake Island, it's just BI-winter!
I have too many kayaks now to not go on Blake Island next year.

I am with PADI, but I might have to renew, it's been a couple of years. A couple of years in which I've done nothing but dream about scuba diving.
Well, almost nothing. I might have gotten drunk and ridden bikes once or twice.
