Saturday, in West Seattle there's a cyclocross race. Not on the eastside, not south of the airport, not some other dammed far off location you'd rather drive to but West Seattle. Awesome.

Click on the pic for more info. Or just check out the map and on-site food truck

Dang, that is going to be brutal.

I've eye'd this park for a Christmas Disaster type off road loop but it is 2/3rds of the park is on a steep hill side and lots of the trails have stair sections.

Alas I'll be too far north to witness this.

The single track in this course was awesome. There were only something like 12 people in Cat 4 Men. The guy finishing behind me was all like, "this was my first race, I'm a messenger, that was cool" and I was all like "yeah, that was cool, too bad none of my friends came".

Got an extra cross bike you can borrow a fella for round 2?
Failing that, parts to build up my MTB frame for cheap as free?

I showed up late and only saw the last two races (fast guys, single speeds).

It was pretty fun despite the lack of spectators. I guess everyone leaves after they finish their race? The singlespeed guys were all friendly with each other and goofing around. The winner even said "hi" as he raced past me sitting there eating my pulled pork sandwich in a desolate section of the track.

joeball, about 1/2 of the course was in the woods. Pretty sweet route with no stairs actually. I only rode it once but I think it went something like this.

Small event all around. Most the spectators I saw were other racers or family, so it felt very under the radar despite being UCI sanctioned. I was around probably 9:30 to Noon or so, long enough to recover and eat before biking home.

Those messengers are so full of themselves, was it the short guy with a beard?

Since attaining the title of beardo I'm a little biased about what constitutes a beard perhaps, but no beard, maybe 5'8" or so. Forgive me for growing up in a town that was 95% white and generalizing race, but I believe he was a bit Asian. I didn't remember a whole lot about the conversation, it was small talk while waiting in line at the food truck.
