I bet Ito will flip flop too. Now we just need to get him to take a position.

Prediction:

Mallahan and Hutchison will both WIN big.

King County does not vote like Capitol Hill.

I am pro-tunnel. I was brainwashed by a very convincing tour/program given by the Seattle Architecture Foundation.

It was the only thing about mcginn i didn't like. So, good for him!

im pro tunnel too. voted on, move ahead, fucking build it.

sounds like he's just supporting the idea that was voted in before he got into office, he's saying he doesn't want to block prior legislation.

in a way, it makes me like him more. we vote in so many things in this city that get turned over later (parks, monorails, gayzorsz rights)

and fuck it, he'll hopefully keep cyclist needs top of mind being one himself.

ive had lots of coffee

I think there's a lot of voters out there who feel the same way. I think it's right about where I was at, too.

Also, I think it's more appropriate to view this as less a flipflop by McGinn as his understanding that he'd been railroaded by the council and Nickels - the 9-0 vote to approve contracts from the other day binds the hands of the future mayor. Given the timing, it seems pretty clear Nickels is either trying to cement his legacy or some kind of job prospect post-mayoralship. McGinn realizes he can't be quixotic against the ENTIRE council, so he's being pragmatic and saying, "Well, if I can't stop it, I can at least be the strong oversight the project needs". I think it's a smart response to a questionably-timed move by the rest of city hall.

I could have labeled the thread better, and I understand the political maneuvering that the city council has taken. McGinn for mayor.

I need a cheeseburger.

Welcome Sorahn to our little club.

First thing - is Sorahn your Dungeons and Dragons name? Go introduce yourself HERE.

Second thing - I'd like to point you to our TOS which many new people find extremely helpful. Think of it as a survival guide. Pay special attention to rules 1-83, especially #6.

Lastly - welcome.

As was stated above by a few people, I also liked everything about McGinn except for his tunnel stance. So this is good. I'm not even that "pro tunnel" but to reverse course now and start over on the viaduct issue would be a horrible new take on the SEATTLE WAY, i.e. constantly reviewing, thinking, discussing (everthing has to be fair!!) but never DOING!
