So, for the past few weeks I have been working a job down in Olympia and when I got back to one I have been working around here I found a bike on the property.

I am the only person, besides the owner of the property that has been there in weeks (so she says).... and I found an unmarked ~54 cross bike, a helmet and a rain shell in the barn where I store some of my tools.

Most of the steel bolts are a bit rusty and there was grass growing through the wheels, which leads me to believe it's been there for some time.

When the owner of the property didn't know who the bike might belong to, I became very interested....

Do you think it's appropriate to take a bike after a certain amount of time, and if so... how much time would that be?

Also: This is out in the middle of no where, with the closest house ~1/2 a mile away. So, it's not likely, in my opinion, that some drunk ass-hat stole/rode it home from the bar.

It's only inappropriate if you post about it on the internet.

If you report it to the police as abandoned and turn it over to them, they search their records and reports for a bit and then if they don't find an owner then they let you claim it before they auction them off.

I did that with a kids bike that was abandoned in my shrubs a while ago.
