On Sunday December 13th is a 5K run&walk for Arthritis (Jingle Bell Run).
It starts downtown at Westlake Center at 9am. Early, I know but if you prepare well for it you feel really good in the end. Just don't sleep for only 3 hours and run it on the flu which is exactly what I did last year but still managed to run it in less than 30min. Crazy but I felt good about it after, followed with cookie decorating. woot!
If you want to do this with me I think it would be fun to have a group to run with (with my fam =D). You can even dress up in a holiday themed costume AND they give you bells to put on your shoelaces. It's quite cute.

if there's one thing i love more than running, it's gotta be running in costume.
IN!

I'm not much of a runner, but I'm just throwing out there that showing up as a team of Grinches would be both holiday-themed AND hilarious.

I'm confused. Are there police or dogs or bad people chasing you? Why the running, isn't that why you have a bicycle?

I can probably find a group of elves to run after you.
it's for a good cause!!!! i do dislike running most of the time but I do it anyway because it makes me feel good when I'm all done. Plus, you'll be with people to push you through it.
think of all the people with Arthritis...

kristen I've been meaning to do some running at greenlake to get in general running shape. I used to do local 5ks, but it's been a long time now.
I am starting at basically zero now so I think you might have a bit of a head start on me. If you are ever up for slowly paced runs I am all about running buddies!

daryl -- sorry i missed you. didn't check the forums until late today.
caroline -- i'm also all for running buddies. i'm kind of starting over too, as the majority of my recent running has been concentrated to sprinting rather than distance and endurance.
can either (both?) of you make wednesday at 6pm? it will be dark, but the outside loop (which is just under 3.1 miles) is generally well-lit. i'll plan on being at the bleachers at ~5:55pm and it would be great to have some company.
ps -- this running event is open to all, as running is great fun in groups :D

.83 running club? In!
I'm usually at the Lakeview stairs Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:30-7:30am, and working on short, slow runs (3-5 miles) other mornings or evenings. Trying to be smart about it this time, the last two times I've tried running on flat ground I've gone too fast & developed shin splints.

Yeah! I'd love to join. I was a cross-country geek throughout my younger years. We'll see if I can still keep up:)
Now if I can only break in my new insoles and run more than 30 minutes without a huge blister!

dear .83ers who also happen to run:
julia and i are planning to do a lap or two around green lake on thanksgiving, and since we have established that running is easier and much more enjoyable with buddies, it only makes sense that y'all should join us. plan is to meet at the bleachers at 10:30am. we maintain a manageable pace (miles between 9 and 10 minutes), and we will also stop for stretching if need be. we will likely end the morning jaunt with a stop for coffee before we return to turkeys, families, pies, and whatever else the holiday entails. hope to see some of you there!

That run was so good yesterday, Kristin! I am trying to do jogs twice a week before the 5k just to get back into running shape and to have a faster pace.
If any of you wanna join us... how much was the loop we did? 4.5 mi? sooo, call me up people!

Yesterday, I was eating some five star Thai food. I felt a sneeze coming on and began to realized how bad this could turn out. I chewed as rapidly as I could, but wasn't fast enough.
I felt like I had been maced. Seriously. I was sneezing garlic tofu, brown rice and red pepper for the next half hour.
