So I'm hoping to go on a fairly long bike trip and thought it'd be good to take a bike repair course. I know some of the basics, but I should probably learn how to fix any problems that might come up. Can anyone recommend a good course? Or should I buy a book and try and figure it out on my own?

I like this book, it has taught me well:
Bicycling Guide to Complete Bicycle Maintenance and Repair Get a bike, take that shit apart and put it back together and consider yourself taught.

For the more conventional route try Wright Bros. I have never been there but everyone tells me it's the place to get your learn on.

And last, that's one big avatar! You probably will get "ass-hatted" for that.

Warning: Lando will replace your oversized user icon with a more reasonably sized one that you'll like a bunch less.

Read Delong's Guide to Bicycles and Bicycling and The Bicycle Wheel also Sheldon Brown. Then take your bike apart and put it back together, then do that to your friends' bike, and then go hang out at the bikery and fix shit.

not really recommending this, but if the bikery is mentioned, the shack still exists, and it's actually open sometimes following the online schedule and expecting everyone to be an hour and a half late, and I don't know if Bret is actually there on the second half of wednesdays.

The Bikery has their own repair really good classes as well, although I think some of them are no straight boys allowed.

Well... or, you could break something before you leave and I'll try and help teach ya how to fix it. May not be the best tactic.

Thanks! I'll check those places out...

I've also read through Zinn and the Art... which seems to be pretty good.
