Short story, he's going to be okay. But man. What a hit.

Because a picture's worth a thousand words and as you guys know by now, blogging is what I sorta do...
On our way back from Steward Park, Capt Nicks bottom bracket got all jerked up at Genesese Ave just before we hit Rainier Ave. This was problematic because he lives in Everett and bicycles down from Everett to ride with us - and then bicycles all the way back - every time he does it. Insane. With a busted bottom bracket, that ride home was now out of the question.
So we put him on his bike and we all rotated out pushing him down Rainier Ave so he could possibly catch the last light rail train and possibly bus/train/public transit his way all the way home to Everett. Sweet.
Sometimes we're totally awesome.
We get to the corner of Rainier and MLK - just as we watch the train pull in on the platform way up at the top. There's no way he's going to make it. Probably. Nick suddenly hits the ground with both feet and bolts left like a deer perpendicular across 8 lanes of mostly stopped traffic running with his bike, hauling ass for the train station to hopefully make the train. There's no way. But he's going to try.
The phrase I'd like to emphasize here is the term "mostly stopped".
He popped out from behind a stopped van, into lane 7 or 8, and directly into the path of a Nissan doing 30 or 35mph, travelling south. Driver was at full speed, hadn't so much as slowed down at the intersection cause he didn't have to, he had the green. We've all done it.
We all yelled at Nick. It was happening fast but we could see it coming. The math was pretty obvious. Well he didn't hear us and the Nissan took him broadside at full speed. As stated, it was a hard hit.
Dude driving was probably 25. Sober. Had another male passenger. Driver was pretty wide eyed and a little freaked out, concerned about Nick, but not fucked up. Just a dude.
We called 911 and tried to get Nick to stop wandering around. Nick was concious but out of it big time. Cops and ambulances show up. I watched the cops give the driver a field sobriety test. Dude passed no problem. Langston took Nicks bike home, Nick went to Harborview in an ambulance with my number in his phone. Called me at 3am said he was mostly fine, was going to call his mom and have her pick him up. Talked with him again today about 11am. Fractured wrist, cut on his head. Will probably have a cast. But basically that's was it. Lucky.
Only damage to the dudes car was that green scuff mark from the paint on Nicks bike. All in all, amazingly, everyone came out pretty unscathed. Just shook the fuck up. If you'd seen the hit, you'd be surprised too.
Afterwards, with little else to do, we all hauled ass for some crappy hipster bar called Unicorn that was packed wall to wall, so ended up at the Summit Pub until they threw us out around 2am and called it a night.
Times.
