Our 5th year of the Fucking Hills Race (FHR!) is coming up. We've had years of chili, prizes, races, harbor masters, lost skin, hurt pride, awkward sexual advances, and all kinds of other fun. We're doing it again. Feb 28th (sunday) meet up 8am under the viaduct at the usual place of Washington and Alaskan. We have 1 hour for sign ups and yelling at each other in the street, then we catch the 9:35 ferry to Bainbridge. I'll have presale packets about 1 week before the race in order to speed things up.
The race is 7 dollars. Prizes will again be cash and a huge pile of bike schwag from our gracious sponsors. All you can eat chili feed at the finish line (veg and meaty) included. Bring an extra 8 dollars to cover the cost of the ferry, return trip is free.
This is a GREAT day event. 33 miles of hills and cold. Bainbridge is beautiful, and it's a great challenging ride. Plus, every year so far EVERYONE attending has gotten prizes, regardless of finishing placement.
More details and sponsor info will be dropped here as it comes in.
If you know of anyone that wants to help out and donate anything (service, item, etc) put them in touch with me. Anything related to cycling or outdoors or strippers or booze makes great prizes. Use your imagination. Talk to anyone you know that might be a position to help out. I can make great laminated gift certificates if you have a service that you'd like to donate as a prize, examples here
You can help out by:
1. Gathering prizes
2. Working the finish line (set up tent, chili, keep track of who comes in, ill have this set up and EASY for you to do. prizes and food will be delivered via a truck, just need to unload and set up.))
3. Night before the race pick up tons of bread from the ever giving bakeries
4. Pirate flag purchasing
5. Copy the picture and spread the word on facebook, messages boards, bicycle community sites, etc.
Get a hold of me with any questions about any of that.

I'm currently seeking sponsors to help out with transportation costs. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be there, but am short on cash this year... let me know if anyone wants to help me be there :) plskthxbai

EDIT: Hooray! An anonymous donor has stepped forward to start making this happen. I have $69 in un-covered travel costs, if anyone else wants to help. :) :) :) Many thanks, anonymous!

Kat, do you know about the Amtrak Guest Rewards program?
Sign up for a membership, it just takes a couple minutes.
Purchase 2000 points for $54.
A one-way trip on the Cascades costs 1000 points.
You will have to call Amtrak and pay $10 in order to book a spot for your bike both ways (you can't do this while purchasing your ticket online, unfortunately).
The process is a little bit of a hassle, but total cost: $64. Win, win, win.
Oops, too late. Booked already... Amtrak money-saving FAIL.
I am a huge fan of spontaneous, gut-level decision-making, especially when it involves me getting to see my favorite bicycle assholes and yell at Freds.

Can you get me one with rat nibbles in it already?

The offer still stands. Do you need one burner or two? Do we have propane somewhere over there? We can't take cylinders of it on the ferry.
Has the finish line moved?
Christine is making cornbread and is also planning to help at the finish line. She might be able to drive a car load of stuff over.

christine helping at the finish line is great, she doesn't need to drive anything over, ill be bringing all the supplies over saturday pre race. just show up on a bike in the morning with the crew.
210 bibs are painted. i doubled it from last year, hopefully we dont bust at the seems yet again.

I don't have a splitter to run them both off of one tank.
I'll get the second one this week (it is at a friend's house, luckily he lives nearby).

I think I consigned myself to finish line duty by launching myself over my handle bars last night. Won't be back on a bike in time I suspect. So what do we need? More chili? cornbread? I have food skills.

if you dont want to race and are just going over to help, show up in the morning with the racers and check in with me. ill have finish line duties for you all. (easy, set up)
everything else is just about done and ready. if you can't ride but are walking over, it's only about 1 mile (or less) to the finish line from the ferry.
