So, Mike McGinn is answering questions in The Stranger's Questionland tomorrow. One of the questions is asking how he plans to promote cycling as a form of transit in Seattle.

Since I'm really curious to hear his response, I'd say either go to the link below and give a thumbs up to that question, or perhaps ask a more insightful one and I'll thumbs up that one, too.

Here's to wishing Seattle had the same sort of cycle transit promotion as Portland!

Great ideas.

We have a bike master plan that is underfunded, so we need to look at funding sources.

We are interested in looking at bike tracks, which are between parked cars and the sidewalk, and bike boulevards.

We are open to other ideas.

That's ridiculous. Isn't that the only legal place for people to open their car doors. Stop making it harder for messengers to do their jobs in the city. Build nothing.

so long as this doesn't come with a sidepath law (as in Oregon, where you are required to use whatever alternative the DOT provides, unless there isn't one), you can still ride in traffic (like grownup, as it were).

but cycle tracks would make folks on shitty-ass hybrids and MTBs comfortable until they're ready to graduate.

i am just sayin.

but you're right--more doorings for everyone!

the cycletrack is only in the way of passenger car doors, and i think the current number of 'people driving alone' (SOV) trips is about 70%.

plus, the design for portland has a substantial buffer:

anyhow, i don't know what all this hate is for facilities. i ride the bgt instead of 522 and enjoy it, i don't think that makes me a baby.

With Seattle's history of instituting any cycling infrastructure in a half-assed fashion i expect it to end up more like this:

sidewalk-curb-parking lane-"cycle-track"-curb. = crash-bang-door-boom.

please don't take away my lib'ral card, Henry. i need that to get into the pants of purdy girls. it's useful for picking the locks.
