So, I have most of September off (starting the 1st, free until the 28th), and I am planning to do a longish bike ride. I'm thinking about going to Crater Lake:
Ride to Eugene, stay for a day or whatever (I know plenty of people down there to stay/party with).
Ride to Crater Lake, camp for a day or two.
Ride back to Eugene, stay for a day or whatever (Hopefully I'm still welcome in the city at this point.)
Take the train home.
I'm thinking something like two weeks for the whole ordeal. I'm really not in a hurry. I don't have any definite plans at this stage, but I figure it's a reasonable time to start thinking about this and rallying interest.

I tried this the last couple years. Crater Lake is already getting snow by the first week in September, I would suggest looking elsewhere for epic destinations during that time period.
Also- the ride to Eugene sucks. Take the train to Eugene then come back via the backside of Crater through Bend/ Gov't Camp to PDX and train from there. 10 day trip. Search the archives for more of my notation on this subject.

Awesome, thanks for the info, Langston. I'll check out your older threads when I get a chance.
As I said, the main objective is to go for a bike ride, and the destination isn't as important to me. I'm completely willing to listen to the input of people who might be interested in joining me, and the advice of those wiser than I am.
Do you like mountains? I can draw you a map of what I'd probably do (combining a few other trips that I have done). It would basically be a big loop of the state.
It would be a lot of climbing and dirt, good views, but not really any cities to party in.

Yeah, lay your route on me, Alex (assuming it isn't too much trouble). Climbing, dirt, and no-huge-parties are all things I can live with, and I'm very open to suggestion at this point.
The only part that I haven't ridden is Cle Elum to Takhlakh Lake, and I bet there is a way with more dirt and going less out of the way if you poke around in topo maps. The best way is unfortunately illegal, but that would be going over Stampede Pass and along FR54 (by Lester, a ghost town).
This is basically pieced together from my three most memorable bicycle tours. The first was my first tour, the Cascade Loop riding over 20, 97, and 90. The second was Twisp to Bead Lake (Idaho border) through the Colville Indian Res. The third was a loop in the Gifford Pinchot starting and ending in Battle Ground.
