it's that time again! but this time, avoid the whole "zomg panic" problem and prebuy your tickets: http://filmedbybike.org/

only 100 available, they say. just bought two for the 9pm, opening night. rowdy!

it's a great time, and portland is fanfuckingtastic city for riding bikes and drinking beer.

Amtrak has much larger SUVs than we can rent, and you can drink onboard!

My head still kind of hurts from the next morning from last year. I ate a whole cookie (whoops) and got lost for three hours trying to ride 6 blocks back to our motel to pick up forgotten u-locks. One of my favorite .83 memories ever - I think this time I'll be trying the trains?

Yes. This so means summer is arriving any moment.

Waking in a Motel 6

I'm in: 9pm Opening Night x2, just in case we have a last minute add-on.

2 tickets for FBB. 9pm squared away.

I'm hitting up Andy for his house again for those interested in crashing for free. It's a great big fucking house with an enormous basement and a garage to store bikes, and it's very centrally located at 33rd and Knott. Peeps who stayed last year will testify to it's badassness.

Will hold up to like 16 people, plus or minus I'll say.

Waiting to hear back from him, but unless he's out of town he's usually good for it.

I can vouch for this. Plus his buddy was not even at all rapey when we came home at 3 a.m.

I am bummed to miss this. Last year was so much fucking fun.

x2 for 9pm. What trains are y'all thinking about taking? Either the 2:20 - 5:30 or 11:20 - 2:50 require me to get someone to cover my teaching, so they're all the same to me. The 11:20 is cheaper, but I guess if you spend points, that doesn't really matter.

How about return trains?

i don't give a hoot about the train. i'd prefer the 2:20 mostly because that is when the drinking will start, and i'd like to acknowledge the fact that my liver is a year older/larger.

i'm excited because this marks a year since i met Rogelio & Pete on the train back from PDX (though i had been there not for FBB, but for the completely nerdy Northwest Archivists conference). also, this is a few days after my 30th birthday. .83 field trip, whee! 2 tx for 9pm show scored.

Two for me also. It turns out I have enough Amtrak Rewards for half of a free trip. If you don't already have one, it is free and they don't spam you. Like frequent flier miles, travel gets you points. I get enough that every five gets me a $42 free ticket. Flexcar also gets you free Amtrak points as do other things. Its a big pyramid scam, but because it's Amtrak it doesn't actually make any money amd is mostly awesome.

PM for my number and we both get enough points for a free half-trip (one way to close areas, like PDX) as you join.

sorry (sorta not really) about the spam

+1 for Friday at 9pm.

+2 for Sunday ... but you people will all be heading home then anyway.

Already dreaming of maple bacon bars. And Pine State biscuits.

2:20 is clearly the winner for the way down. It's the last train that will get us to the 9:00 show.

For Sunday I'm leaning in the direction of the 2:50 train, which gets you back to Seattle at 6:20.

Ok... after some deliberation, I'm on the 2:20 down (snagged the last two bike tickets, TYVM), and on the 6:15 home on Sunday (Joby's suggested time had no more remaining bike spots).

don't fret at the lack of train bike hooks, last i checked joby had a stack of folding bikes. maybe if he likes you, you can borrow one. you can take those on without paying the $5, though you may have to be clever.

Lee i believe you also have a folding bike, and were interested in some metal i have.

Maybe we can work together.

if your metal happens to be a fork, you're in luck! alternatively, i need you to be able to do a rain dance over alex's house.

At the moment i have a whole drawer full of forks in my kitchen.

Or, probably more related, 1 threaded fork on the frame i picked up at the swap...
