I think Julia asked it on FB and I realized that I didn't know, partially from blackout, partially because there were different groups to go up and come back.
I'll extend it to Mechanicals. Flat tires, broken chains, broken bones, broken frames, broken spokes, broken hymens, broken hearts, broken dreams, Patrick Swayze and/or Peter J Woodman.
How many mechanicals did you personally get at BC V this year?

1 flat after rolling through all that damn glass on highway 3 outbound, friday. it was just to the side of the kevlar belt, i guess with all the extra weight on the rear i should have rolled at max psi instead. the highway shoulder on the return trip had significantly less bullshit (no unbroken 40s, etc.)

I considered phrasing a similar post but trying to get more useful information out of it than just a raw number.
Flats: How many, what caused it?, where was it, how long did it take to fix, did you have everything you needed?
It's tough to penalize people for puncture flats because a lot of that is luck of the draw and how comfortable you feel out in the road.
Other mechanicals: What happened, could you fix it on the road, and could you have prevented it back in Seattle before BC5?
I realized I did have one mechanical, my chain jumped past the granny in the rear just as I hit the first super steep hill. I stopped pedaling immediately, fished the part that had gone over back out and walked up part of the hill till I could get back on and pedal. So lost time, about 30 seconds. Could I have prevented it? Yes, maybe another nudge on the limit screw, shift in the rear before the front, or add a pie plate.
I don't think we had any catastrophic failures though like sheared derailures or K9/trailer issues. So if all we had were flats and folk were prepared and able to fix them then I think we did OK.

One. My chain didn't break, but it did do this. Thanks for untangling, Henry.

well Andre if ya wanna get super technical about mechanicals:
A few times on the ride back my chain didn't drop fully from the big ring to my middle ring, causing lost momentum and a precious few seconds left on the road. egad.
Dropped chains aren't mechanicals, unless u have to bring out the chain tool. Alex's chain drop and tangle is up for debate.

greghxc's internal-flatting tube might count as a real mechanical.

Sure, I took it in stride, Lets chalk it up in Sweeney Safety Lingo as a "Near Miss." Had I stood up to pedal I could have easily broken 1/4 of my spokes and my chain and been basically SOL, a death blow mechanical.

And I thought your "near miss" was just an excuse to walk up that hill. ;)

I'm with Tic Toc here. I dropped my chain once climbing one of those mothers of a hill. No biggie. I then got a stick in my derailleur (via chain) on the way down the hill to the camp site. That fucked with me most of the way back home until I realized that it'd bent my derailleur a little bit, causing the shifting to get all dicked up. Neither I'd consider a real mechanical, or I'd consider them rolling-mechanicals.
I'd consider Daryl eating shit a stop-mechanical. Luckily no harm, no foul. I'd also consider Alex's a stop-mechanical.
Greg had 3 flats on the same tire. Someone get that guy some rim tape.

substitue rum for beer, and I likewise was largely incapacitated once we arrived at camp. Good times, y'all. Its going to be a tough call when it comes time to re-audition for Soundwave...

I was actually considering that. The bike was still completely functional, just lacking a front brake.
Can I get a "Yes, but .5 Mechanicals" option?
Also, if I had actually fell into that washed out chunk of road (I missed it by about 6 inches) it probably would have ruined my night.
