I can ditch my kayak in favor of the tandem, unless Justin finds another option entirely or would rather hop aboard a sailboat. Let me know!

Quick question on the tandem, though - what is its gear stowage space like? Would gear need to obtain passage on another boat or does it have hatches?

That sounds good to me, Wendy. See you at the ass-crack of dawn Saturday morning.

The tandem is a Seaward Gemini. It has front and rear hatches and bulkheads, but no center hatch/bulkhead. The front has a lot of legroom too, and we've put our sleeping bags up there before.

Here is a photo of it:

We really overloaded on that trip (enough camping gear for 3 or 4 people even though there were only two of us...came home with an extra days worth of food after 5 days of kayaking) and still fit.

Derrick, what is the water situation like over on Blake Island? Fresh water is easy, or do we need to bring a lot of it? Do we need to bring filters?

I was fortunate enough to borrow this from Alex last year (thanks!) and he's right, there is plenty of room for gear (and beer). Hell, you could probably even bring some short, skinny, starving stowaways along with you...

Alex - should I come to your place Saturday morn? I can happily haul the tandem on my Honda since you have saddles. If so, PM me your addy.

Justin - did you need/want to carpool if I am hauling the tandem?

Coming to help load or carry a boat would be great. We can put a kayak carrier on your car or use both of our cars. Address is coming in PM.

I'll be there. See ya bright and early and we can figure out what will work best, car-wise.

If you can give me a ride to Alex's in the morning, I would gladly accept. I live on the north end of cap hill. If that's out of your way, though, I understand, and I can get there on my own.

Oh yeah, by the way... the tent I am bringing is a 2-person, and there is no second person currently booked. So if anyone wants to save some room in their luggage, and take the other spot in the tent, I've got a space (except if you are Derrick).

Oh, and I included one too many commas in that post.

Sorry. It's been kind of a rough day.

Does this mean that there is a spare single kayak? I've been trying to get one of my ex-coworkers to lend me his for transport on Alex's lesbaru, but he's been out of contact…

I could also join tittlefitz or you in the tandem, I am open to topping or bottoming.

I'm a top, thanks for asking. It appears, however, that just about everyone living in Seattle wants to paddle a kayak with me, and I think that another deal was already struck.

Details forthcoming.

I think we are approaching a finalized plan - just waiting to hear back from Alex.

Sorry Fred, it looks like a kayak shuffle occured off the forum last night (I just found out too). The tandem is now Kyleen and Justin, Wendy is in her own boat, Christine and I are in our own boats, and my cars are full (2 kayaks per subaru, 2 subarus, 3 single kayaks, 1 tandem kayak).

5thd-ed. Alex, thanks so much for the use of the kayaks. So much fun!

Point83 book club is officially reading watership down now, as 3 of us ended up reading that book out there. Bunny themed ride in the future?

Watership Down is a great read, I wouldn't mind taking a second pass on it. Bunny themed is good as long as I don't have to dress like a bunny.

I'm glad you guys could borrow the gear, it was great having both of you along on the trip.

Edit: Sailing folks, if I wanted to take sailing classes where is the best place to go in Seattle? I don't think that I can afford to be a sailor, but I'd like to try sailing. My last sailing experience was almost 20 years ago and sailing on a Laser for 3 or 4 days in New York.

There is a place in Kirkland I've heard good things about.

Find someone who races and crew on their boat. Nothing intense, pull lines and move your weight around.

I keep forgetting to post this, but we brought back a pair of water shoes that weren't claimed. Size 13, mostly black with grey detailing, low tops. PM if they are yours.
