If Christine doesn't go the kayak loaning is:
kristen - single
wendy and justin - tandem
Sorry Wendy, Christine is in so the kayak shuffle is on.
Alex - single
Christine - single
Justin and Kristen - tandem
Hmmm ok then.

They actually don't live on an island; they live in Eastlake. Anybody want to help a brother out?

I don't know if the people we're borrowing them from will be so crazy about that...

I think that Derrick's method is fine for shorter plastic kayaks (like 10' or less). I wouldn't do that on a full length sea kayak, especially a fiberglass one.
Do the friends with kayaks also have the roof rack mounts that you borrow?
I might have one spare kayak mount for a Yakima roof rack, I'll need to check. I don't remember if we have 3 1/2 boats worth or 4 boats worth.
You can probably rent them at NWOC. You can buy this inexpensive one from REI (assuming you already have the 4 tie-down straps):
http://www.rei.com/product/672423
I'm already wondering how we're going to get all three of our kayaks to Alki. Two fit on the roof easily, three is harder.

Could we get the kayaks to alki in multiple trips? It might take longer but it sounds like theres only a few kayak-approved roof racks between all of us.

How long are they?
I might be able to fit a couple in the Jeep (an old wagoneer style)
I'll be leaving from the Duwamish, we can launch from there, and you can paddle out to Alki, or I can tow you.

I also have an inflatable dinghy with a shitty little 2-stroke. Alex from 20/20 cycle finally fixed it so you don't need a power drill to start it anymore. I'd be glad to let you fuckers use it and give poor Justin a break this year. Just don't break it, dammit.
Count Jackie in. Marg, Alex, you got dibs. I can take more if you're willing to camp on land.

How many kayaks need moving but don't have cars with racks to move them? Does anyone have extra kayak roof rack saddles? I can probably fit 3 kayaks on the roof of my car (it only needs to carry 1, Christine's car can carry our other 2), but don't have 5 kayaks worth of kayak saddles. I might have 4 kayaks worth....I'll count tonight.
sekai: a short kayak is 10-11' (like Derricks), most are 15-17'

I should have space for at least one additional kayak on my roof.

I do not have any means of personally transporting Alex's tandem (though I'm willing to help solve that problem). Kristen?

Alex (f) and I are in need of kayak transport. My car doesn't even have bars on the roof, so lashing them down totally won't fly. Alex (m), if you could provide portage for the kayaks, that'd be greatly awesome.

I just remembered that I don't own a life jacket. Do you have an extra I can borrow along with the kayak, Alex (or anyone else, for that matter)?

Are my boats going? If not someone should take them. I wish I where. If the boats don't go I have all the gear and car racks for 2 kayaks worth. I have 2 types of racks for cars so something is bound to work. I would also lend you my car but it does not really work right now and it is locked up. If people are in need of PDFs or paddles contact Ryan he has all my boat shit....I hope.

They're totally going. Ryan and I were planning to take them, and if one of us drops out Tittelfitz is on the waiting list. The car thing might be interesting though. I don't know what kind of car I will have in july. My subaru is going back to its maker at the end of the month.
Side question - is there any way to attach a flag to them? I have one picked out :D

I think the kayak list in full is something like this:
Has transportation:
Alex (boy, me) - Alex's kayak
Christine - Christine's kayak
Justin and Kristen - Our tandem
(one spare slot on our second car for a kayak)
Wendy/freemywrd - borrowed kayak
(one spare slot on her car for a kayak)
Needs transportation, has roof racks:
Ryan - ChristineBean's kayak
Kyleen - ChristineBean's kayak
Needs transportation and roof racks (and maybe paddles/PFDs??):
Alex (girl, not me) - A borrowed Kayak
PeteJr - A borrowed Kayak
So if Ryan and Kyleen can get a car, and Wendy and I can transport kayaks for girl Alex and PeteJr then we should be good. I'll do my part there, especially if they can be between Ravenna and Alki.
I can't believe that I'm doing a point83 event that involves both of our lesbarus.

I might be coming. I might be bringing a boat or kayaks. I might make a raft out of empty rainier cans.
Needs transportation and roof racks (and maybe paddles/PFDs??):
Alex (girl, not me) - A borrowed Kayak
PeteJr - A borrowed Kayak
My borrowed kayaks come with paddles and PFDs, but we still need transport/racks.
Thanks!

A reminder for those who are riding on the October-train:
I will be leaving the dock at NOON on friday the 9th. let me know if that absolutely won't work for you. we'll see what we can do.
we'll returning sunday, possibly with an early-ish sailing time, wind/tide depending.

This is stupid shit, but I got 3G the whole way last year. I can leave at noon so long as I can do work BS on the way out - I can tap an outlet for my laptop while we're underway, right?

I have a power inverter, if you are interested in borrowment. I forget what the exact wattage is, but it's higher than "laptop", and lower than "TV and XBOX".

Nevermind, problem is solved by a YES! ...but no., as my dumb ass totally forgot that there was some kind of sporting event occurring on the 10th and 11th? I think it was the 3rd place match and fucking FINAL of the World Cup? Whoops!

Time for another yes but no. Pete Jr. and I have to go out of town that weekend. Other Alex, your kayak transports are now open.

Head's up - I was just conversing with another kayaker friend of mine and apparently a new law has gone into effect this year that states that when boats/kayaks cross shipping lanes, that we are required to radio the coast guard and let them know our time of crossing. The fine is around $1000/per person in violation. This is something we might want to do some research around since there will be a group of us, and that'd be one hell of a fine.
