I probably have a spare, but it might be a tandem, so you'd need to find another person. I won't know for sure until closer to July (when Christine figures out if she can get time off of work).

The tandem is good for open crossings. It is more stable than the singles, has a rudder that makes it easier to steer, and when get tired you can make the other paddler do all of the work.

I will gladly fill the second spot in a tandem if so desired.

Ok, put me down for a kayak, Alex. If it is a tandem, I'd be happy to share with you, freemywrld (sorry, I forgot your real name... I know we met on BCV).

Just to be up front: I wouldn't call myself a master kayaker or anything, but I've spent a reasonable amount of time paddling around Lake Washington, and am not a TOTAL spaz.

Hehe no stress on name forgetting - I am bad about it too. Real name is Wendy. I have decent kayaking experience (including tandems) though haven't done a ton in the sound. I might suggest that we see if our gear can cross on a sailboat on the off chance we end up in the drink! Sounds like the crossing is fairly mellow so we should be fine. I call frontsies!

I have drybags that you can borrow too (and don't forget that Ortlieb panniers are basically dry bags with extra hardware).

If Christine doesn't go the kayak loaning is:
kristen - single
wendy and justin - tandem

If she does go we'll figure out how to shuffle them around (she and I will probably take the singles, and the tandem will be available).

Also, do any of you three have a car with a Thule, Yakima, or Subaru roof rack? My car only carries two kayaks maximum, fitting just a tandem + a single is hard.

I have a roof rack - if someone has saddles, we can toss it up on my roof, easy peasy, as I've done this before with my friend's tandem. If not, maybe I can see about borrowing the saddles from said friend, but the chances of them being is use is always high.

Given I was DENIED PASSAGE (for shame! oh the humanity!) on the October, I'll take any passage I can. Sounds like Kayaks are spoken for, but I'd prefer a sailboat anyway. Ben, if the Dorothy Rose sails, keep me in mind, yeah? Bott, if you change to Friday and anyone has to bail, I'm able to take their spot.

Did you confuse me with ben, or just assume that ben is managing my affairs?

I suppose i'd be fine with either one. Maybe he can take over this fucking cold i've been fighting for two weeks.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear there. I have saddles (somehow I ended up with 4 boats worth), you just need the car. It sounds like we're okay there, awesome.

Awesome possum. We can work out the gritty details closer to that weekend.

dammit ... here I go booking a trip to the east coast that involves returning the evening of July 10th .... and wouldn’t you know, the .83 Blake Island trip happens that weekend. Fuckity fuck fuck.

If there ends up being some posse that does a day-trip out to Blake on Sunday, and has an extra spot in the boat, or one to loan, talk to me. If so, please contact me via PM or email… probably won’t be reading this thread much more, so to avoid :( :( :(

Kayak rental? There is also the ferry that runs over there.

I was going to offer my two kayaks and gear but looks like my partner has already gone and done that so enjoy them. They can fit camping gear and beer for a week in them as well. I would use dry bags for sleeping bags, no promises it will stay dry in the hall without them.

Kayak rental?

Got any recommendations for a place I could rent+paddle from? Bonus if I could stash my bike there safely. Agua Verde is $110 for the weekend, but I would think I can do better than that.

Is it remotely reasonable to rent on Lake Union or further inland? The extra distance doesn't concern me, but would portaging around the locks be a bitch? I haven't done much sea kayaking, but I have done a lot of whitewater (though I could never roll for shit in still water).

Oh hai Christine! No sense in letting the boats get all rusty in dry storage right? Also, I may use the opportunity to move them to Allison's place in Madison. Free kayak storage. T-fitz or Kyleen is piloting the other Dostal boat.

You can paddle right through the small locks.

You could look into rental from Mountain to Sound Outfitters. They rent from Alki Beach:
http://m2soutfitters.com/ or http://www.kayakalki.com/ (same company)

i can write gibberish too.

ORFEO is a record label from Germany, best known for releasing live recordings of German orchestras and artists. It is responsible for bringing to the general public such archives as that of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, including a revelatory performance of the Bruckner 9 by Kubelík at one of his last concerts.
