So after talking to a professional bike camping adviser (or Andre) my suggestion is Aldrich Lake. The destination of Ben Country 2. Good for smaller groups and not a repeat of any other camping trips planned so far for the summer.
Plus weather has turned from some showers to "Mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the upper 60s".

Is there an issue with NE Belfair-Tahuya Rd making it a bad road to ride on, or were you guys just going for more miles and the scenic route? Only 30mi if you shortcut.

Yup scenic vs direct. The road is similar if not more quiet than HWY 106 that we just rode on BC5

belfair-tahuya is how we (or at least a group of us) came back from bc2. it's hillier, but definitely more direct.

I have to report that Aldrich Lake Campground was overrun with loud trailers and RVs when I was there 4th of July last year (after Christine sprained her ankle on our hike to Joeball Mountain). Hopefully it is better on Memorial Day weekend.
I did like that spot on BC2 and the ride is nice (minus the little section near Bremerton).
edit: i meant year.

I have a possible new recruit, but she's needing a sleeping bag. Anyone have an extra? She or I could pick it up on Saturday. I live in Ballard so close to there would be good.
Is anyone bringing a water filter, or should we haul out some gallon jugs?
Is anyone bringing a stove or should we bring food that can be eaten cold?
As a side note, installing a Surly front rack on a bike with discs is a pain.

Man all these logical questions.
Sadly I do not have an extra sleeping bag.
I was thinking about bringing my small one burner propane stove.
Was was thinking of picking up one of those awesome UV raygun water sticks of magic.
Also I think I am going to go check out the campsites around there today by car.

I hope that isn't my doing. With all of this rain I'm guessing it will be more open then what I ran into last year.
Water filters are a good idea, but you can walk into the boyscout camp the back way and get potable water.

ok... IN!
Will bring stove and water filter.
Any interest in taking a different route on the way back and making it a loop? I drove that route once many years ago and it was pretty cool.

Well I do want to check out the noise and busyness level and such but there are also a couple of campgrounds around there that have been closed due to budget cuts that I want to see how they are and if you can get into them with bikes.
Plus there are worse ways to spend a day off then tromping around the woods.

That is good news if some of the DNR campgrounds over there have been shutdown. Closed campgrounds are great cycling destinations.

.....out. sigh. dedicating this weekend to not flailing out of grad school. blah
Ok its official Aldrich Lake. I went got there around 6pm and only saw a forest service guy for a couple of minutes. It was REALLY PRETTY and isolated. I am pretty psyched. Now the forest service guy I did see was in the official state park campground and told me no camping, BUT on the other side of the lake was a spot that you had too go down hill a bit to that didn't have any no camping signs and you could tell people had previously camped and had fires there. It was also very pretty there.
Lets meet under the viaduct across the very terminal car entrance (where we meet for FHR) at 10:40 to catch the 11:10 ferry.

Sweet if you bring your water filter I wont run out and buy one 9even though I know I should).
Yeah I saw that the weather turner for the worse. I sent a facebook message to the INs earlier (you apparently havent seen it yet) to see how the feeling was about huddling under a tarp or putting it off to a nice weekend. So far I got one response saying put it off. Thats what I am leaning towards.
