For those of you who receive bike advocacy emails from CBC, I wanted to share an exchange I've been having with them concerning information misuse and shitty math. You can read about it here.

As you were.

Did you know that if you take the number of pedestrians hit on Stone Way, add 35% more bicycles, and then divide the result by Tuesday, June 8, 9:30am, you get the golden ratio? Statistically speaking, that's the same number that God put into sunflowers, seashells and Leonardo DaVinci to prove to us that he exists!

It's actually more like this.

On a serious note, I have been noticing the number 9.8 come up a lot. Anytime I drop something, trip down stairs, or ride up a hill, it is inexplicably involved. I have a feeling it's significant; otherwise I wouldn't notice it all the time, right?

Man, after Cascade Single-handedly saves the stone way road diet, you've got to pick over the details of their victory? Just be glad we have such an awesome source of advocacy working for us!
