Anyone interested in going on a bike tour this weekend??
I know it's a bit late planning, but is supposed to be beautiful this weekend! Preferably, I want to go backpacking in the mountains, but the snow level is still too low and the avalanche danger is high... so I'm seriously considering a bike camping adventure (can't wait for JoeBall Mountain!)
I'm thinking about heading out Friday Afternoon/Evening and coming back Sunday night... but would be open to waiting to leave Saturday morning, if that works better for others to join in?
If you're not interested but know of a neat ride to suggest, please do so, thanks! (searching for a nice loop somewhere)
One thing I'd like to do is a ride up in the Northeast corner of the Olympics., Near Dungeness Forks campground. Either a gravel loop with camping, or perhaps some mountain biking/cyclocross-bike type stuff. We could to an awesome 160-mile, 2-day ride and camp over Bon Jon pass:
Or could drive over there then make the riding a bit mellower. Could also work in some of the gold creek/Dungeness loop:
A different thing would be some exploring down just north of Mt. Rainier off hwy 410. There's a road wash-out with some river and road and trail access beyond it that needs checking out. That'd be a 2hr drive to get there, though. Still, this is the one that appeals to me. I can drive for this.
EDIT: Don't know why, but doesn't seem to like my links to route descriptions. I'll PM you.

All of this sounds so rad, sorry the links don't work, but we'll figure something out, I'm stoked!
Some folks might come out later but I would be up for riding out there to get some miles in.

I like Middlefork. My other ideas involved too much driving or were too close to the snow level.
Also, I was confused about soccer game times. The USA doesn't play until 11:30, so forget it, I'd rather be riding bikes on what is supposed to be a sunny 70 degree day.
Ride out there, meet at 8am, roll at 8:30?
Also- would this be camping at the actual Middle fork campsite -or is there some other spot?

there are two sites we've used. the first is great for biking in, only a mile or two up the dirt road, but has shitty parking.
the second is 8 miles or so up, has tons of parking. and we've used that one mainly the last couple of years.
middlefork!
id be driving up midday sometime. and can possibly shuttle tired people up the last stretch. and/or gear

Sarah and I were talking about going bike camping this weekend also. She has a commitment that takes up a big chunk of Saturday but we were planning on taking da bus on the way out of town anyways. Weather report says its going to be nice the further south we get.
I was thinking Jarrell Cove State Park down in Shelton for the two of us, but that might not be ideal for a rowdy group.

As far as a site lets go to the further one, more parking for cars and even if there are other campers there is a secret .83 area we know how to squat at. It's about 8miles on the dirt road

at risk of opening the floodgates for ridicule again, will anyone have tent space? i just realized that my tent is currently in tacoma with my brother. i don't take up a lot of room, i don't snore, i'm kinda cute, i'll likely have whiskey, and i'll reward hospitality with baked goods. kthx.

I support this, I'll chip in if you bring hot dogs and beer or fiesta pot for tacos.

Oh man fuck you guys. I was just thinking about fiesta pot tacos. Maybe i'll make them at home.
I'm tempted to go out the MF tonight if it keeps clearing up at the current rate.

i still have the fiesta pot.
if everyone throws me a couple bucks, i can get all the fixins for burritos on the way up there. i can also haul beer or whatever else. its a long ride from the last grocery stop. i'll get tortillas, beans, meat, cheese, lettuce, salsa, chips, etc.
also, remember, there is no longer a liquor store in snoqualmie, it's moved to a shitty town pre snoqualmie. so don't hesitate to buy early.

Set up camp tonight and stay 2 nights. I heard that Georgetown thing some folks are going to wraps up at 9 pm on Saturday. That's early! Still light in Seattle this time of year. Just grab the camp tonight and you can leave your stuff once we get there Saturday.

This sounds really great, but I already have my camping stuff at work with me to go camping at a farm party on Vashon tonight. So riding to MF in the morning is not likely to work.
But it sounds like a couple of people are driving later. Maybe someone wants to give me a ride?

is that true? i just checked on the washington state lcb site:
NORTH BEND
State Store: 179
NORTH BEND
320 SW MT SI BLVD 109
NORTH BEND WA 98045-8409
Mon-Thu 11:00-7:00
Fri-Sat 10:00-8:00
Store Manager:
DEANNA (425-888-2624)
District Manager:
MARCUS A SIPHERD (206-389-2474)
Was there ever a liquor store in Snoqualmie? I know when i lived out there you could buy liquor in North Bend or Fall City but no Snoqualmie. Not that it really matters as the standard bike routes out there pretty much completely skip Snoqualmie but do go through the other two.

northbend was what i meant. i had stopped in there a couple times over the years, but last time it was vacant. they told me it was in snoqualmie now farther back from where i came so i skipped it.
the liquor stores all around have been playing musical chairs, so maybe they put one back in

Thanks Derrick, that would be awesome!!! Can you buy a big case(s) o' beer too? I'll definitely through down $$
The 8 AM meet up sounds good. Thanks for helping plan everyone, super glad that all you guys are down with going on an adventure this weekend!

directions if youw ant to come later:
From Seattle drive east on Interstate 90. Take Exit 34 (signed 468th Avenue) and turn left. You will pass a truck plaza and convenience stores, then turn right on Road No. 56 (Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road). The road splits, but don't worry, they join up again.
once you hit the dirt road, we're roughly 8 miles up. you'll see one of my white jettas parked on the right hand side. walk in a couple hundred yards until you find us straight in and to the right a bit through the woods and on the river.
