On bikes, I recommend either reversing the entire route, or at least going 4 -> 10 -> 9 -> 8 -> 7 -> 6 -> 5 -> 11, to avoid going the wrong way on the one way loop road. Best art seems to be at the Environmental Learning Center at the top of the hill and the Model Airplane field at the bottom. Some of the art probably works better at midday than sunset (when we saw it), but sunsets at Carkeek are magical, so I'm not complaining.

Art's cool, but does it appear to come with additional security? In other words can post-gate closure fires still easily happen?

'Security' appears to be as it always was; there certainly isn't anything extra for the art.
You may have a problem getting the fire pit for yourself, though. Someone had claimed it for the evening when we got there at 9pm. I suppose you could always take it after the gate is closed, but is there any guarantee that'll happen at a particular time? Sign says 10pm, but I don't remember them being particularly punctual.
One more thing: bring marbles. Someone set up a marble track near the model airplane field (actually probably just a water drainage thing, but it looks like a marble track to me).
