Wait, I meant to post about a prefunk: it's Slog Happy up at the Hunter Gatherer's Lodge (former war room). They start at 6, it's gonna be amazing out, and there's a huge deck there. Plus, it's a quick descent to WLC. Could be neat.
Thoughts?
Do they have food? Will it be overcrowded with a bunch of knee-pad wearing Dan Savage worshipers?

Actually, taco bell has their "fresca menu". It doesn't totally suck. Basically it is the same food with added "salsa fresca" but without the sour cream and deliciousness. I have no idea why I know so much about taco bell right now.

No idea about food, but you're on the hill? I'd be surprised if there weren't at least appetizers and such.
I've been to one slog happy. It was about two dozen people, kinda goobery but all rather nice, all being friendly and discussing local news, shows, etc. Think... if the staff of the stranger were less hip douchebags. Mostly it's a nice patio and somewhere I haven't been (well, since the name change) with cheap mojitos.

That sidewalk is a deathtrap anyways. Curb is at pedal height. Take the lane.
Not disputing anything you said, but I've seen .83ers go down on metal bridge grating before. I've also seen .83ers who are averse to riding on metal bridge grating hit the brakes hard, then go down when they get rear-ended.

don't worry, i've got a route that avoids the ballard bridge. can't believe they just shut that thing down for three weeks though, wtf.

i have a very portable iPod speaker system that i'm willing to hike along on thursday.
this is totally happening. both the iPod and the speakers have been charging all day.
suggestions on how to best transport this so that it can be easily heard, but will avoid damaging my iPod, my speakers, myself, and others?
kthx.

You can get pretty good pizza and a burrito, if not a taco, up the street from the Hunter-Gatherer place at Bill's Off Broadway; they also have outdoor seating and happy hour specials. That's my prefunk choice.

Hah! I keep trying to come up with a way to make that thing portable, especially with the bike setup I have.
So, my day is over... I've got nothing to do all of a sudden before the ride. I think I'm gonna go to Mama's for a (first) burrito, then I kind of want to start drinking. Anybody have the day off? Bored? I'll stick around downtown / the hill. Text me or respond here.

If you tie the speakers down to your rack, put something with a little give underneath (cardboard, newspaper, whatever). Plastic bouncing on a rack when you hit bumps on the road is not the path to success.
Not sure how to hold that ipod in the dock exactly though.

See you people tonight.
Unfortunately for me, (and fortunate for Seattle, I suppose) I will be leaving her here for the majority of the time. That is, I will be borrowing her for a weekend or two, but you should be able to get along.
I will be bringing her on the ride tonight, however. So yay for that.

What he said. Rack + bungee cord = win.
I don't know that I'd worry too much about the iPod coming out, but if you are we can just electrical tape it. Won't muck up the finish of the ipod too bad.

i agree. the one hiccup in that plan is that my pista has no rack (i like to think i have enough of one for the two of us. heyo!). luckily, between the racks and baskets that other people have offered offline, we will have music, regardless of my (in)ability to transport it.
Alex - i may be wrong, but it sounds like Bill's Off Broadway was the last food+drink prefunc mentioned. I'd second it, but work dictates that i won't meet up with you guys until WLC.

Agree about the cushioning needed. If you don't care about easy access to the iPod, I'd just tape/ziptie the whole thing to your backpack/messenger bag/helmet.

I'll throw my rack into the mix as well: if you can get it to Westlake, and someone hasn't already beat me to the punch, I can safely transport it for the rest of the ride.

That was more than a tallboy — it was a FourLoko. 12-15% alcohol, lots of caffeine and guarana, plus wormwood for good measure:
I got home at around 12:20. Peter, Lee and I got way out in front after Sketchy's 'biological', and we dropped Lee somewhere before Woodinville. I was thinking about operating a liquor stop at the bottom of my hill at the trail & 123rd, but there was a yappy little dog that would just not shut the fuck up. Instead I ate apple compote crepes with my French roommate.
