i saw the 545 slip away on 520. the overlake park and ride / transit center is a lie. or the signs directing me to it anyway. took i-90 back and rocked a solid 44 miles but i suspect you north of the lakers will clock more. great ride.

Stellar. That was a class-A ride in my book. So much smooth blacktop in Bellevue, fun backroads and gravel paths, lots of new (to me) folks.
New guy James, on the sweet retro-campy-equipped hand-built in France B----? bike, rode all the way back with his small LED flashlight gripped between his teeth.
Highlight for me was blasting down the Sammamish R. Trail, looking at shooting stars.
Emily and I stopped a Metropolitan Market right on the edge of bonking, then had an easy cruise back to Crown Hill. Home at 1:50.

I think fate may be punishing me for taking a wife taxi home, as my condo building's fire alarm went off sometime around 6am this morning for no apparent reason and we all had to sit around outside waiting for the fire department to come and shut it off.

That was the best ride of recent memory, but I'm glad I didn't get stuck riding back. If the ride's going to go that far, let's please not make it a secret in the future. I'm not opposed to long rides at all, I'm opposed to it being a surprise.
That velodrome time was awesome. The pizza hut / taco bell was awesome. We rode right by my fucking high school, which I hadn't seen in years and years, and that was awesome. ... Awesome.

pretty psyched that the CygoLite MiliOn paid me back with beautiful Burke-Gilman illumination last night...and here I thought it was a wasted investment.....
I was also amazed by the quantity of southbound riders on the sammamish river trail at midnight on a Thursday (that damn blinding recumbent seemed to derive great satisfaction from our pain)

If the ride destination weren't a secret I think too many people would have bailed. I knew the secret and it was hard to get myself motivated around 5pm yesterday, but by 8pm I sure was happy to have gone on the ride.
I think that once a ride is crossing the second I90 bridge it is pretty clear that it is going to be a high mileage one, and people could have easily turned around there.
Thanks to Joby and Lee for the awesome ride. It was much more fun than riding to the Greenwood combo-hut. Thanks to Andrew for playing brother taxi and giving Melanie, Jon, and myself rides home. Sorry he got stuck in traffic and missed the fun at the velodrome.

well, let me tell you in advance now: next week, come prepared to ride fifty miles. with probably some hills, and likely some gravel, and some drinking. be prepared like that every week.

Come on Nick, every now and again we actually should ride bikes. A few tips here: If you tell people they need to bring a light, they won't show up. If you tell people we're actually going on a bike ride, they won't show up. If you tell people the first stop is neither a bar, or a liquor store, they won't show up. That being said I think everyone that came out last night was capable of a leisurely paced 45 mile FLAT ride, and to everyone who bailed at Marymore in cars/taxis/strangers cars you missed an awesome push down the Samamamish river trail with meteors and shooting stars flying overhead.
