i saw the 545 slip away on 520. the overlake park and ride / transit center is a lie. or the signs directing me to it anyway. took i-90 back and rocked a solid 44 miles but i suspect you north of the lakers will clock more. great ride.

a first for a thursday ride: the north lake loop, plus marymoor, plus a commmmbination pizza hut and taco bell.

Glad I got my ass off the couch, that was a fun time. I haven't had taco bell probably since the 80's (with good reason). But please don't ever play that song again.
Hey Henry, we ate at the gyrocery tonight. It was pretty good.

Thanks for a fun ride everyone! Deven, you are my hero for driving me back. I think I promised you a steak pie - I did, right? Kyleen, I'm glad you and Dani had some adventures getting home...but not too many.

there was something incredibly satisfying about blasting "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell" on my soundsystem as we walked into said establishment. thanks to justin for the idea, fred for carrying the music (a million apologies for that), and thanks lee and joby for leading! it was a wonderful route, and a beautiful night for it. also: wow, who knew that my track bike would be so much fun on a track?

I'm still being gastrointestinally punished by that seven-layer burrito.
gut rot's a good souvenir, though. thanks for organizing!

Velodrome was rad, but I was to understand there was some kind of meteor shower we could have watched from Golden Gardens last night.
I'm sure it will happen again soon though.

Stellar. That was a class-A ride in my book. So much smooth blacktop in Bellevue, fun backroads and gravel paths, lots of new (to me) folks.
New guy James, on the sweet retro-campy-equipped hand-built in France B----? bike, rode all the way back with his small LED flashlight gripped between his teeth.
Highlight for me was blasting down the Sammamish R. Trail, looking at shooting stars.
Emily and I stopped a Metropolitan Market right on the edge of bonking, then had an easy cruise back to Crown Hill. Home at 1:50.

I think fate may be punishing me for taking a wife taxi home, as my condo building's fire alarm went off sometime around 6am this morning for no apparent reason and we all had to sit around outside waiting for the fire department to come and shut it off.
But, yes: A classic .83 ride. Thanks to Joby and Lee for their fiendish plan, and to the rest of you for being so much fun to hang around with.

FTFY. And thanks.
Great ride.
Other thanks go out to (in no particular order): Lee & Joby (planning), Kristen (sound system), Fred (porter), Perseids (being pretty), Wreyfords (being fast, even in the dark, and not dead), Dave (falafel), Scott (general grumpiness), Talia (being pretty), Dani (giving me a hard time), Kyleen (owning an RB-1), and everyone else (forgiving me for not thanking them specifically).
Please don't do anything exceptionally fun until October. I'll see you then.
Edit: oh yeah, and a very special "no fucking thanks at all" goes out to the asshole on the recumbent with the fiery power of 1000 suns strapped to the front of his "bike".

My dyno-powered LED light is mounted right at his eyeball level, and aimed perfectly horizontal, with a lense designed to focus more light at that level and below. We got your back (Lee, Prof Dave, anyone else with a bright light).

45 miles on a thursday night? As much as I complained, I needed that. Hilarious idea, good route (the gravel single track to MS parking lot was classic), and my burritos were really fresco. Made me wish I had more thursdays free. Thanks guys!

I am surprisingly not hurting this morning. I think the husband taxi and all that riding without booze made things much less troubling than I kind of feared as I climbed into bed.
That was the best ride of recent memory, but I'm glad I didn't get stuck riding back. If the ride's going to go that far, let's please not make it a secret in the future. I'm not opposed to long rides at all, I'm opposed to it being a surprise.
That velodrome time was awesome. The pizza hut / taco bell was awesome. We rode right by my fucking high school, which I hadn't seen in years and years, and that was awesome. ... Awesome.
Next week, let's get drunk.

This never happened when Aaron Goss rode with us.

pretty psyched that the CygoLite MiliOn paid me back with beautiful Burke-Gilman illumination last night...and here I thought it was a wasted investment.....
I was also amazed by the quantity of southbound riders on the sammamish river trail at midnight on a Thursday (that damn blinding recumbent seemed to derive great satisfaction from our pain)
best 1st marymoor velodrome cherry-poppin' trip ever!
awesome ride overall!!!!!!! wooo!
ps. do I still get that promised spokecard for beating a grrl? hehe

it shouldn't be a surprise, you came out on a thursday night bike ride. if you want rides of a guaranteed brevity, you might want to check out the ones listed here.

Hah hah, I should ride with cascade, I'm a wuss.
I don't know why it has to be kept a secret while we're riding, even when we're on the eastside and neither of you two would say a word. Adventure is fun and all, but why the notion that it has to be a closed piece of privileged information? I still would have ridden, but I could have been better prepared. It just seems unnecessary.

If the ride destination weren't a secret I think too many people would have bailed. I knew the secret and it was hard to get myself motivated around 5pm yesterday, but by 8pm I sure was happy to have gone on the ride.
I think that once a ride is crossing the second I90 bridge it is pretty clear that it is going to be a high mileage one, and people could have easily turned around there.
Thanks to Joby and Lee for the awesome ride. It was much more fun than riding to the Greenwood combo-hut. Thanks to Andrew for playing brother taxi and giving Melanie, Jon, and myself rides home. Sorry he got stuck in traffic and missed the fun at the velodrome.

well, let me tell you in advance now: next week, come prepared to ride fifty miles. with probably some hills, and likely some gravel, and some drinking. be prepared like that every week.

I usually only come out on thursdays if the thread contains hints that it's gonna be a pile of miles. this thread looked like that. one needs to read the clues.
New guy James, on the sweet retro-Campy-equipped hand-built in France B----? bike, rode all the way back with his small LED flashlight gripped between his teeth.

Come on Nick, every now and again we actually should ride bikes. A few tips here: If you tell people they need to bring a light, they won't show up. If you tell people we're actually going on a bike ride, they won't show up. If you tell people the first stop is neither a bar, or a liquor store, they won't show up. That being said I think everyone that came out last night was capable of a leisurely paced 45 mile FLAT ride, and to everyone who bailed at Marymore in cars/taxis/strangers cars you missed an awesome push down the Samamamish river trail with meteors and shooting stars flying overhead.

You should have seen the sad puppy dawg face Sketchy gave Devin while asking for a ride. It was precious. Too bad the Husband Taxi was full.

That would've made my night. Also, can we make it a rule that both Sketchy, and Sway are never allowed on the same ride? For safety's sake.

waking up at 7am and hiking for hours with a heavy pack up to Summerland in Mt Rainier, I thought fondly of you all and told tales of your bravery and exploits. I had a great time and was super stoked to be in your company. Next time Jeff, I ain't throwin the race.
Next week, prepare for a drunken good time, with tuba.
