How did everyone feel about last year's venue 9 Million in Unmarked Bills? This year, the planning committee has been rather distracted. This should happen Thursday the 9th, which means a week to pull this bullshit off. We need volunteers, to make spoke cards, to procure supplies, to build trophies, to generally plan this dumbshit event. I can try to lock down 9 Million again, but a few other options exist. They were pretty awesome last year for donating all the fries and shit, letting us take over the whole bar, and cool with all the street puking. Ideas, go.

my weekend went from completely occupied to almost completely open. i'd be happy to help with the crafty stuff. if you have an idea for the spoke cards, i'd be happy to make them. this also gives me an idea: would anyone be interested in a combination brunch / spoke card creating / any other sort of business / movie-watching party at my house on either saturday or sunday? i'd make the food and mimosas (and possibly irish coffees).

dunno if this is still the thang, but early summer derrick was talking about doing it picnic style.
with cash & carry hotdogs and checkered table clothes in a park somewhere.

Kristen, I'm not sure if you've even made spoke cards before; if you have, I'm sorry for the following pedantry. Anyway, my first batch came out kind of wonky, and here are the strategies I've found effective since:
Make the image at home (obviously) with photoshop or whatever, and then tile them into a new 8.5x11" image such that there is 1/4'' to 1/2" of space between them. This is so once you cut them out, and put them on a 8.5x11" lamination sheet, there is plenty of plastic between the cards to get a good seal and prevent bubbles.
Save as a .png or whatever; highest possible settings.
I then thumb-drive the image and print mine out at Kinko's; the computer time plus the printing costs maybe $5 -10 (depending on the size of the batch, obviously).
A paper cutter is much more effective than scissors at liberating the individual cards pre-lamination. Again, another advantage of Kinko's.
Kinko's also has self-serve lamination. They will explain its use in case you haven't used one before. I recommend running them through the machine twice, turning the sheet upside down (front -> back, not top -> bottom) for the second run. And make sure you use the cardboard sleeve!
Here comes the part where it is helpul to have a gang of people; go home, buy beer, find a few friends with scissors, and have them get cutting. Again, make sure you leave enough plastic around the edge that they remain watertight.

Also: if you're going for 2-sided spoke cards and using the 8.5x11 lamination technique, print the image on both sides of a single sheet of paper.
Do not try to print one side on one sheet and the other on another, and stick two sheets in the sheet of laminate. This will seem to work, until you try cutting the individual spoke cards and realize they all fall apart because the laminate sticks pretty well to the outer side of the paper, but the two sheets of paper do not magically get fused to each other.

its easy to use the cutter at kinkos to do the final laminate chop too.

Predictable and derivative? Yes. I can send a .psd (with real transparency) to anyone who might care.

Yuss. That's how you can tell: the lack of me caring about a spoke card I'll never get is pretty clearly indicated. I took a McDonald's fry carton, brushed out the "M", recolored the .83 logo, resized and pasted.
Math didn't lose too much in the process.
Yet! I will never lose the shame required to create something mediocre in order to compel someone else to make something better.

after a conversation with robin last night, i think i might have great idea, and i hope one of you clever, creative people can help me out with this. can someone figure out a spoke card that depicts a fry mosque on ground zero? because i think that would be hilarious.
