One year ago today, I crashed my bike and broke my collarbone. The story is kind of funny (if you've heard it, you know this is true), but overall the experience was generally shitty. There was a surgery, and a lot of bills.

Parts of it were circumstantial, others were my own goddamn fault.

Point is: Total F-. Would not do business again.

Proud to say that since then, I have not become dislodged from my bike. Not even once, not in any way, shape or form. I'm sure that I won't make it the rest of my life without another wreck, but I hope the next one isn't any time soon.

Please, share lessons learned from the your goddamn fault part so that the Wreyfords may learn.

Yeah, I'm happy to share the lessons I've learned. But want to make sure it's clear this isn't an admonishment.

I.e., It's a list of a few things that I have learned, and not things that Ryan and/or Chase (necessarily) need to know.

Like, it's for the Wreyfords of the World. Not the Seattle ones.

And so now that that is prefaced, here is what you requested, Kev:

1) I have learned how to locate the point where I can no longer ride a bike. Riding bikes and drinking is a whole lot of goddamn fun, but there is actually a degree to which alcohol impairs your ability to ride.

Amazing, I know.

I will hold to this: you can safely operate a bicycle at levels of intoxication above and beyond those at which you can operate a car. And flinging 150 + 20 lbs of drunk McShoulder and bike at stuff probably won't kill anyone; flinging 150 + 1000 lbs is a different story.

However, there is an upper limit. Every once in a while I drink past mine, and riding home is no longer wise. It's the point where I need to call someone to get a ride, take a bus, or just fucking walk. It is shameful, and everyone is probably going to laugh at me, but it's better than a broken collarbone.

I've learned to recognize that upper limit, and act accordingly.
