On the interwebs today I came across a ride idea called the "six pack shuffle." Here's how it works:

  1. Buy a six pack of beer.
  2. Meet up with your bike hobo brethren.
  3. Everyone writes a destination on a slip of paper and throws it into a helmet.
  4. One location is randomly pulled from the helmet.
  5. Group ride to the chosen location; drink 1 beer.
  6. Go to step 4 until the beer is gone.

Trading beer is encouraged. Adaption to a 3 location / 2 beer per stop system is okay.

Anyone want to try it on a non-Thursday this week?

I agree with Tuesday. Also, the weather is currently predicted to cooperate with the idea of multiple outdoor stops.

The best part for me is that someone else has to come up with a destination for once.

Tuesday may work very well for me, too! Do we stick with our historical first "stop"?

Traditional first stop, you mean Shoreline? I dunno, put it in the hat and we'll see. LOL jokes at Greg's expense.

I reckon we could swing by a grocery store on the way to our first official stop if someone didn't get the memo about bringing a six pack to Red Square.

Our new traditional first stop is the last place where Sketchy remembered having his keys/phone.

I like this. Just found a new-to-me pocket park. Not really good for much hanging around or starting fires, but perfect for a short stop to drink a beer.

Hey Jimmy,

I still have no clue who you are, and I still owe you some beer, so if you are riding tomorrow, I will bring you a six pack. Hopefully you see this message before the ride. I will be on my red Peugeot, come say hi and claim your prize!

I saw your message just now, and I will gladly accept your six pack later. Look for the guy with a helmet mirror the size of a small moon(or space station).

Haha, I hope not...

I meant Schultzy's as the pre-Red Square prefunc/snack attack. After being gone for a while, I really miss their fries and am thinking about going there beforehand. Anyone else interested or have different prefunc idea?

Sean, I will make the ultimate sacrifice and pre-funk at Shultzy's.

things I witnessed tonight: a good idea, a birthday boy with a unicorn monkey thing partially suspended by peƱor, nice places, a beaver, a family of raccoons crossing the street, dodgeball, a foozball table on the sidewalk near midnight, a full moon, and a lot of headtube.

i saw daniel's friend standing on the railing of the 20th street bridge hanging on tree limbs and breaking them, telling us that he wanted to jump off the bridge into trees and shimmying down the 100+ foot trunk to the bottom of the valley below.

He needs to join the Seattle Fire Department, they practice climbing and descending on that bridge.

I'm curious, what 6 parks were picked? It sounded like a good idea, I was sad that I couldn't make it (but sort of happy that I wasn't drinking 6 beers on a Tuesday night).

Ballard Fred Meyer
Sunset Hill Park
'The closest large body of water' => Golden Gardens
'Chill park down by the water, etc.' => Lynn Street Park

And at this point we split up. A couple went to Magnuson, a few to the Korean Tofu House on the Ave, a few up to Cal Anderson for dodgeball.

I was worried that someone would draw something like Lincoln Park or Mercer Island back-to-back.

I really liked the "closest large body of water". I could see 6 destinations written this way being quite a fun night. Closest large body of water, nearest liquor store, bar serving tater tots, nearest fire pit, nearest street with the same name as someone on the ride, etc.

Nice Jimmy, you've got the right ideas going... we should do this again some time, made for a pretty fun night!

Big thanks to Kevin for making this happen

16 people turned out, nice.

Some quick thoughts:
* don't lose the bag.
* don't lose the bag!
* even visitors new in town on their first ride can successfully pick a destination by using the word "nearest"
* for random results use slips of paper that are roughly the same size; hands seem to gravitate towards the odd slip out
* maybe this should be the Tuesday ride's MO?

I couldn't help myself from pawing through the unused destinations, there are some solid gold spots in there. Next time!

Great idea, Kevin. I'd say keep doing it on Tuesdays until we get sick of it.

You should get the leftover ideas to next Tuesday's ride, either in person or just PM me. On the off-chance only 3 people show up.
